@citizen428@chaos.social Our Labrador would do a trick with a digestive biscuit. He'd allow it to be balanced on his nose, and would hold still until told he could have it. Then he'd flip the biscuit up in the air and catch it in his mouth. ... until he worked out that if he got it wrong on the first attempt he'd get a second biscuit.

@revk@toot.me.uk I had grew up with raw milk in the UK from about 1970 to 2000. Local farm with doorstep delivery. Very high standards with regular brucellosis and TT testing. Milk was guaranteed to be no more than 48 hours from leaving the cow. Never any problems. I wouldn't go for raw now. However most milk is homogenised nowadays and I miss the ritual of shaking the bottle to mix in the cream layer. The taste was subtly different due to the different fat structure.

@ftp_alun@infosec.exchange @petrillic@hachyderm.io My first encounter was of the BBC 2 TV series. Then when I was at University it was conveniently repeated on Radio 4. I even sat with a boombox on Castle Hill a few Saturday afternoons to record some of the episodes of series 2. And shortly after that the CD box set came out.

Spent a decent part of the afternoon fault finding Dad's through-floor mobility lift, originally installed over fifteen years ago. It's stopping short when descending.

The manufacturer/installer said "You can't afford it" to the distance charges for a service (they're on the south coast of England and we're on the northwest tip of Wales) and no local firm seems to want to bother with us.

Found a service manual online for an adjacent model. The control board is different but the wiring harnesses and working principles are the same.

Isolated the problem using the circuit diagram to a magnetically operated reed switch (which should bypass other limit switches when it's operated), and further narrowed it down with a multimeter to being one or two potentially broken wires in a flexing wiring harness linking a static part to the moving lift.

So it's still not fixed but we now know roughly where the problem is.

@rhyswynne@toot.wales Could be worse. The one and only organised race I have taken part in was a 10km run there in October 2021. The start was up Angina Hill and the finish was down it, but the killer about 7km in was a slog up the long hill from the golf club car park (opposite Sainsbury's) up to the Orangery.
