Mabel had her first bath today. She was not very impressed and took a while to fully dry off in the warm. It was very tiring for a little floof.

The errant ear came out again.
Mabel has had a busy morning meeting people and having a walk along the fallowfield loop a little bit. Now she gets to rest.

Mabel likes to be at the extent of her lead rather than sit by me where her water and food and snacks and toys and lovely daddy are. 😭

@noboilerplate@namtao.com I've submitted a PR to fix a pet-peeve of mine (assuming file paths are utf8) -- if you agree with me being peeved by that, maybe a good idea for a short video about how Rust provides proper types for manipulating filenames etc.?

@czarbucks@vmst.io Mabel is a surprisingly calm individual and we're trying to keep her that way. Though she does enjoy a run by the reservoir.

@dngrs@chaos.social Interesting idea -- certainly worth putting on the pile - thank you. And good luck.

@bal4e@tech.lgbt I'm considering building a small DSL for some projects of mine, and wanted to have them be garbage collected since most use of the DSLs will be small scriptlets which get composed, making cross-scriptlet explicit memory management harder for my users.
If I were writing one from scratch, a pretty basic mark/sweep would probably be sufficient.

What is the current state of the art for garbage collected data in Rust?
Please boost for reach.

@coderanger If I had a junior dev who was structurally incapable of learning from mistakes, I wouldn't have that junior dev for long, they'd be fired.

@saethlin@hachyderm.io I tend to treat these in the way I hope they were intended - effectively a star/thumbs-up of the issue but where the intention was to let the OP know they aren't alone. ie. contentless for me (beyond a +1), but valuable for my community to cohere.

@noboilerplate@namtao.com No worries - I think it's a cute tool to have but I have "interesting" file paths on my system from time to time eg. glibc trees, so it's useful to ensure nothing bad happens :D
