This was candy in a glass. Imperial stout, 13% ABV, chocolate, caramel, peanuts. Unbelievably smooth. Potentially very problematically so.

25 years ago today I was teaching at a high school on the west side of Manhattan. 3rd year teacher, start of the year, etc.
I am having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that the towers were hit 25 years ago.

I'm not only mad, I'm supremely disappointed.

I owe @paninid@mastodon.world a huge debt of thanks for pointing "Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes" by Tamim Ansary out to me. I enjoyed it immensely and learned a ton. In the end, until humans figure out how to square "freedom" with "community", we will get nowhere at best and kill ourselves off at worst. This book might provide some signposts to someone wise enough to make use of them.

My 5th grade elementary school teacher, Mrs. Casanova (RIP ❤️) gave me issues of Games to keep me busy after I'd done my work in class. She was the first teacher who really "got" me, and I am forever grateful.

@shimminbeg@masto.ai every lab tends to have its own storage for whatever is needed. Not usually the case that there would be one "central" storage area. It's possible that there could be a room with liquid nitrogen tanks that are piped to several other rooms, but I think usually things like liquified gases are kept in smaller quantities in individual labs. There will be a room somewhere with centralized power conduits for the entire building, but it's not gonna be big. Nowadays I'd imagine there is a centralized server space, but that's probably the size of a big closet.

@shimminbeg@masto.ai a lab: maybe 15' x 15', cabinets on one wall, counters underneath them, with a built in sink, in one corner is a large piece of apparatus (could be a vacuum chamber, could be a table-sized shaker, could be a laser setup). In an opposite corner are two desks, back to back, with desktop computers on them. A printer would be next to one of them. Would be sprinklers mounted on the ceiling.
