Why so many Steam games have weirdly similar (and forgettable) names Top of mind for me after reading this article is that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet should just be called The Heretic Prophet, and Horizon: Zero Dawn should have just been called Zero Dawn.

Day 803 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing Today’s game is some more Pokemon Platinum. I’ve been working on the Pokédex all day, and consequently the Living Dex. The major headaches so far have been the eggs. A whole bunch of walking to hatch them. I’ve started doing them in batches. I have a media server set up, and I’ve been watching Supernatural while I do it (always wanted to watch it, never got a chance). Normally I don’t try to “multitask” like that. But by step 10,000? I was needing something else to do. This whole thing though made me think, crazy respect to people who do Shiny Living Dexes. I don’t think I could ever. Like. The number of Shinies I’ve found in my life is maybe <10. Maybe 5 if you exclude scripted ones like in ZA. Hell. I did a Living Dex for Gen 3 and the entire time I only found 1 Shiny. It’s crazy man. I saw one of my friends was naming every Pokemon they caught. I thought it’d be a fun challenge so I did the same thing. I need to go back and name some. But around 150~ Pokemon in I stopped giving them names and started naming them after the first noun I saw online. After that I just started making them up or naming them after the first word I came up with. I even started getting creative by swapping vowels and noises. I ended off on Mt. Coronet, hunting for a Absol. im thinking I’ll named this one Ande. Like the Andes Mountains. Or Andesite. Or maybe I’ll name it something Mundane. Like Dave or something. First I need to find the damn thing though.

I made some interesting mods cross-posted from: lemmy.wtf/post/49719896 I love this game and since its not updating very offten i decided to learn programming and start making things that i want myself. So i made some first mods. One is lode stone, i changed recepy to use metal ingot instead of netherite ingot. Small change but wery important one, because player can use it much earlier in the game, and can make as much of them as it needs. Its wery usefull item in the game and it never should have been expencive. Second mode is furnice, blast furnice should simply be better version of regular furnice. And thats exactly what i made. It can smelt all the items same as regular one but it smelts items twice as fast. I want to learn everything, so if you have some place where i can find all informacions about how game works and how to make mods, please share it with me.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 & the Art of Directed Creativity Let’s take a look at Dragon Quest Builders 2 and the way that it uses direction and guidance to help the player develop and enhance their creativity, whilst also still offering enough freedom for the player to make whatever they build still something uniquely their own. Whilst the article is focused upon the gameplay rather than the story, there may be one or two minor spoilers, yet nothing that should ruin the experience for you. Still, please keep that in mind if you have not played this game.

The WipEout Game You Had to Buy a Movie to Play I stumbled across this while looking through old PSP physical releases and ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole. In 2005, Sony released a version of the movie Stealth on UMD that also had a playable, exclusive version of WipEout Pure on the same disc, complete with a Stealth-themed track and a craft based on the film’s fighter jet. I ended up writing a little piece about what was on the UMD, why Sony was experimenting with movie/game hybrids at the time, and what survives of this very strange release today. It is a super light little read, but when it comes to PSP’s these days, there’s woefully few of those! Hopefully some in here find it amusing :)

This ‘World of Warcraft: Forever’ Mod Blocks All Interactions With Asmongold Fans The beta for the hotly anticipated World of Warcraft: Forever has been marred by fans of the streamer Asmongold who have filled the game’s public spaces with spam and slurs. To fix the issue, a player named Solastro created a mod called OlympusMute that hides any chats from players associated with Asmongold’s multiple associated guilds and fandom. Funnily enough, Solastro told 404 Media he used to be a big Asmongold fan too. OlympusMute, named after the main Asmongold guild Olympus, is a client side mod that creates a mute list designed to prevent players from seeing anything from players associated with Asmongold. It works simply by hiding chat messages from players with Olympus in their name. It also auto-declines group and guild invites from the muted players. Solastro is a longtime WoW player who told 404 Media he found the Asmongold related spam in WoW: Forever intolerable. He said it’s worse when Asmongold himself logs in. “The trade chat is spammed with people wanting to get near him, on his layer, etc. The guild invite spam is prevalent, as he’s encouraged his followers to invite as many people as possible to Olympus,” he said. The mod, essentially, is an attempt at a nuclear block. It “hides all player chat from muted players: Say, Yell, Emote, Whisper, General/Trade/custom channels, Guild, Party, Raid, Raid Warning, and Instance chat” and “hides their chat bubbles in the open world,” according to its description. There are good reasons players may want to never hear from Asmongold or his guild. “Turned on @Asmongold stream for 3 minutes and just instantly see them harassing some random player and spamming shit like this in stormwind,” X user @mrfishpsirit said in a post on X. The account shared screenshots of chat bubbles calling to “deport all greenskins” and sexually assault Palestine. Asmongold himself replied to the post with a list of slurs he’d invented for the game’s fictional races. “When the army of followers is in a single location, the chat is filled with /yell messages that often include slurs (with special characters to not get flagged), racist chants, misogynistic terms, etc. It’s something I heavily dislike, but it was too pervasive to be able to /ignore each player, so I found another solution just to filter chat,” Solastro added.

What’s everyone top 5 games of all time I am just curious about people’s taste here, since this community looks sane compared to other “loony-toons” gaming subs or forums online. You don’t need to explain yourself just name them. Thanks

Day 802 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing Today’s game is Fallout 3. I didn’t realize how short the main story was for this. For context I just met up with the Brotherhood of Steel before ending off and I’m on my way to get the G.E.C.K. I can’t check exact hours right now but I’d say I’m maybe 15 hours in? Maybe 10. It’s not a strike against it, I like shorter stories, but it’s just something I’ve noticed. I did Operation Anchorage too today. Binged it all in one go. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was an interesting experience. There’s almost a sort of fun novelty to a more traditional Linear shooter experience recreated in Fallout 3’s janky engine. I couldn’t do a full game of it. But a quick short story is a lot of fun. The post of the DLC threw me for a loop though. I had been half paying attention to what was going on, so when they mutinied I hadn’t realized what was going on. I almost thought I had stolen something and they were pissed about it. I went back to the Citadel and sorted myself out. I’ll need to go back and pick up Butch since the DLC dismissed him, but besides that everything else is cleaned up. Dropped off the excess weight I didn’t need at the time and headed back to track down the G.E.C.K.

Possible ARG found in an indie itchio game The Sky is Haunting is a short horror game that got a bit of traction after the italian streamer Yotobi tried it and found, among other things, the code “M17 M24 M2 M99 M0 M16 M78” whose meaning is still uncertain. The game itself doesn’t seem to contain much more but the developer has a twitter account with some dubious posts and a public mail that someone messaged with the code and got replied: “There is an exit from the simulation, and you are on your path to it. Record M0002 and await instructions. {/…}” Honestly i have no idea how deep it actually gets as it just got discovered but i figured some of you could be interested in joining the search. The game itself is free and works flawlessly with proton.
