Human societies seem like they can absorb any shock (that doesn't destroy them outright) as long as it doesn't fundamentally upset the hierarchy of power. Societies are flexible. The hierarchies are not.

Humans being irrational in an irrational universe is probably inevitable but it does leave a lot of bodies in its wake.

The phrase "silent and inexplicable" has been in my head a lot lately. Against an indifferent background universe, or worse, a universe where the powers that be seem deranged and often hostile with no explanation forthcoming, the failure of human societies to shield people from the unfortunate and ineffable stands out. What is society for otherwise?

A private company created a massive network of spy cameras across the country, which cops mostly use to stalk their ex-girlfriends. This dystopia brought to you in part by America's unhinged reaction to 9/11.

I think Milo represents a defunct phase of the American fascist project. All that provocative "debate" shit and the appearance of "diversity," as if a gay white supremacist with frosted hair signified anything different than his bosses. But under Stephen Miller's auspices, Trumpism is evolving into something more militant, more raw and brutal, with ICE at the forefront. Milo ending up in ICE custody really says it all. They're done talking to the rest of us. They don't need influencers anymore.

This is little practical difference between a cis girl who is raised to hate herself because she is told she is evil, sinful, inferior, and ultimately useful only for sex and procreation and a trans girl who is raised to hate herself because she is told she is wrong, sick, mentally ill, unlovable, and ultimately useful for nothing. The religious and misogynistic attacks on their self are very similar.

If you're over 40, you've seen every move in US politics a hundred times before. Trump isn't even that new. He's just more blatant. He does all the questionable things out in the open and he does them all at the same time instead of spacing them out.

Women aren't required to perform hyper-femininity 24/7/365. It makes no difference whether we're cis or trans.

A lot of people seem to think that because trans people had nothing not that long ago that we'll be happy with nothing now. And first of all, we didn't have nothing. Until you freaks went on the warpath, our healthcare was relatively safe and secure. We had a generation of trans kids who got to live whole lives. That was a big fucking deal. That's all been taken away from us. We can't even pee in safety anymore. And you don't care.

You've got grown women out here acting like manosphere freaks who've never seen a woman without makeup and are suspicious of anyone without perfect features and proportions. Like, most cis women can't make those standards either. "We can always tell." No, you can't, and what the fuck difference does it make?

The entirety of transphobia from crude jokes to direct violence is a systematic attempt to scare trans people into hiding and to eliminate the ones who persist. This idea that there is an acceptable level of transphobia, that "common sense" restrictions need to be made, and the liberal cope that once these bans are enacted, it will stop there and no further, is just cis people refusing to remove the noose from around our necks.

Like, yeah, mistakes happen but those are easily blown off. It's the people going around with a "transvestigation" attitude that are the problem. Like, that's not normal. 10 years ago, if they saw a tall, slightly haggard middle-aged woman wearing a t-shirt and jeans, they wouldn't think anything of it. 99.9% of the time, it's going to be a cis woman anyway. But now they jump to conclusions and try to be cruel about it.

Israel itself is never going to change. It will never seek peace. It will never do justice by the Palestinians. It doesn't matter if it's Netanyahu or someone else in charge. The entire political establishment and most of the Israeli public think genocide and land theft are an unalloyed good. Israel are the bad guys and should be treated as such.

All AC does is pump the heat back out into the environment where it came from. "But the coolant is a greenhouse gas!" Yes, but under normal circumstances, your AC unit should never be leaking it into the environment. The bigger problem is where the electricity comes from but most of us don't have a choice about that anyway. It's awfully rich when countries that burn methane in winter like there's no tomorrow complain about these things.

It was also pretty obvious that Biden fucked everyone by running again after saying he wouldn't and that Harris was the logical choice to run in his place on very short notice. That didn't make me feel any better about her prospects, especially when she pivoted to running as a Republican and telling Democratic voters to fall in line or go fuck themselves. It's her fault she lost.

One of the surreal things about growing up was seeing people who agreed with me our culture was trash and the earth was dying just -- getting over it? -- once they got their job, their house, their career, their whatever. And then it was like it never happened.

I thought Harris had a lot of potential at first. She called the old man out on his racism! On live nationwide TV! Shock! But then she did what she always does: she caves to pressure, retreats from a message that works, and starts pandering to the rich and powerful. I crossed Harris off the list after that and her abysmal performance during the 2024 campaign reinforced everything I thought about her. She's gutless, amoral, and drifts in the wind, doing whatever her rich friends tell her to.

Like, you can clearly tell that when conservative men imagine trans women, they imagine themselves in drag. And like, semi-joking, but you can tell trans women are women because men don't understand women and they sure as hell don't understand us. But if I saw a guy guarding the women's restroom and another asshole with his phone out ready to film a confrontation, I would get the hell out of there because they're either going to start something or stage something.

There's a ton of support for stopping this stuff. People hate ICE. They hate these national guard deployments. They oppose genocide and this useless Iran war. They hate health insurance companies, tech companies, oil companies, CEOs, and data centers. It's the racist, affluent white people cashing in on this shit who refuse to fight back.

It's stupid but interesting on a couple of levels. Like first, they obviously can't find any examples of trans women behaving badly so they have to invent their own. Second, I don't think they could identify a trans woman in real life anyway because their assumptions are all wrong. The fake "trans women" in these videos are blatantly guys in wigs making duckface constantly and show a strange lack of concern for their own safety. Because it's fake and they're playing the villain, obviously.

@PallasRiot@social.treehouse.systems Conservative Democrats' insistence that only they can defeat Trump is a self-serving lie because even when they do fail upwards into election victories (because everyone is sick to death of Republicans), they never undo any of the damage because they agree with Republicans on policy. Trump is merely a symptom of the systemic rot anyway. They were perfectly satisfied by the Biden Pause because their only problem with Trump was he was vulgar.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, it seemed pretty obvious the people who wanted to hurt us would eventually exhaust either the public's sense of horror or the media's sense of honor in reporting on it, to the point open eugenics and genocide would cease to be scandalous. What I didn't realize, but should have, was that people would let it happen out of apathy and their sense of entitlement, their desire to be served and waited on, and the continuity of a banal, already harmful "normal."

If the world worked the same for rich people as it does the poor, we would deduct the cost of all this fraud, corruption, fossil fuel profits and subsidies, military adventurism, police state bullshit, and other crimes against the country and humanity from the net worth of those responsible, and if they couldn't pay, they would go to prison basically forever.
