If I've blocked you it's because you've made me uncomfortable in more than one reply to my posts or created a "So you hate waffles?" situation. Follow fishers very unwelcome.

If you try to roleplay with me I will fucking microwave you with my mind. Please also do not flirt with me, especially if I do not know you.

I won't accept your follow request unless you tell me your favorite animal or plant. This is not optional. Having done this doesn't entitle you either & I might still deny the request. You must have a filled out account with some public posts too, boosts do not count. If you keep ignoring this I'm just going to block you. Requests from automated accounts will never be approved; I'm not interested in feeding your LLM.

Do not make me add more to this because I'm tired of it. My bio is 90% "do not follow me if…" & "quit crossing my boundaries" & I hate it. Only follow me if you actually want to see my posts & you're not going to be nasty or gross about them.

I'm an adult so I might sometimes talk about adults only topics. I will add a content warning when my post contains anything nsfw.

I would go as Xenia for Halloween but my hair isn't the right color & I don't have stuff for a fox tail & fox ears & I don't have anything to do for Halloween. Also the Linux situation. There should be a furry mascot for BSDs. The dragonfly & blowfish are close, but only for DragonFly BSD & OpenBSD.

@Dianora@ottawa.place @JustinDerrick@mstdn.ca @thePluff@mastodon.social Something nice about Mastodon specifically is that if you add all of your tags at the end of a post, then separate them from the main body of the post with a blank line, they'll fold up into their own HTML element that both looks nicer & can be more easily skipped with screenreaders. @gumnos@mastodon.bsd.cafe I don't even use LLMs & this command helps me code all the time! I run it whenever I get stuck on something & it completely gets rid of the block, allowing me to keep writing!

Do mini PCIe hardware security modules or standalone cryptographically strong pRNGs exist? If they do, where can I get one? NetBSD is complaining about low entropy (laptop from 2011) & suggests I keysmash, use an entropy file, or get a USB pRNG. I would prefer to have all of my USB ports free. I have no idea where to find such a thing & I can't even find USB HSMs besides the one that YubiCo sells. The closest thing I have found is a bunch of TPM2 chips with SPI headers on them & I don't think I have any free SPI connectors in the laptop. For now I'll use an entropy file but I would rather do something better like using a proper RNG device. I think people watching these tags might know more than I can find with a search engine. Thank you. #Security #BSD #NetBSD #Linux #Cryptography

@cwebber@social.coop DNS is "decentralized" because if one server removes a domain name, you can just use another one that still has it. However this is not at all how DNSs are operated in reality & it is completely centralized. There are a few alternative DNS networks, but those are also centralized! What are people getting confused about here, the acronym? The "D" stands for "domain", not "decentralized".

@ahltorp@mastodon.nu @tehfishman@ioc.exchange @smn@l3ib.org Withholding evidence would be not giving them the key in the first place. Destroying a single bit, even if it's in volatile memory & going to be lost on power off anyway, will be interpreted as destruction of evidence. If you give them an inch they will take a mile. Even if you have a backup of that data or a key to it somewhere else.

@ben@mastodon.lubar.me @foone@digipres.club I don't understand why they need randomly generated code though. There's probably a 50% chance it generates an "actually kill this person for real in real life with the shock collar" mode of some sort. I'm sure the other 50% of the time the firmware is going to make the collar fry itself, harming only your wallet.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca Your alt text fails to convey the massive scale of this. Those aren't tables, those are entire warehouse shelves! They're eight layers too! These are what you would see products stocked on & stored on top of in large hardware stores such as Home Depot, Lowe's, or Menard's. There seems to be more bulk storage between each row too. This is way worse than it looks at first glance. :( I want a library this big. I would take care of all of the books & share them. :(

A sneakernet with good routing so people can share blogs, loan physical books, movies, & other media to eachother, & do other stuff without touching the Internet at all seems like fun & a good way to get lots of people reading lots of books & sharing lots of cool projects with eachother.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca Yes! I'm never getting rid of any of my books, only buying more. I have no idea how to protect them after I eventually die though, which worries me. I probably won't have children to give them to. Getting some books only a few decades further into the future is something, but it's not far enough to make me happy. I would like them to be read at least a century from now. Donating them to public libraries is an obvious option, but libraries in the USA aren't well funded & are constantly under attack. Donating to private libraries makes me worried the organization running them could be corrupt or that the books might not be read.
