@JustinDerrick@mstdn.ca @thePluff@mastodon.social hashtags are the secret sauce here since we have no "helpful" commercial controllers prompting us eg. no algorithms. A lot of people (including me) will not boost images without alt text, so those are important as well.

What if transit was seen as the prime mode of transportation for a city instead of something in place for those poor people who can't afford a car or those seniors who no longer drive? I mean those poor people we should do something for them! Of course they can't expect it to be as good as owning a car! We can't provide a limousine for everyone! And you people are communists for not wanting to be good consumers and buying an enshittified new car every 5 years like everyone else!

After hearing about our craft beer struggles, I wondered just why we can't make our own aluminium cans. This article outlines why. *sigh*

This article https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-lrt-train-wheel-rail-problem-report-1.7588002 made a lot more sense after reading this article @VE2UWY@mastodon.radio linked
https://practical.engineering/blog/2023/10/3/why-are-rails-shaped-like-that
If the rails are soft then the wheels are going to dig in and not ride up the wheel at all hence squealing as they dig in.
Thank you Jim for a legacy to be proud of!

So many of these points I agreed with. Read her blog post!
Ecologically sustainable and supportive rainwater diversion and flood prevention
Summer heat caps on multi-residential buildings and retrofitting existing rental units with heat pumps in service of same
Renewal of the urban canopy with native tree species
An up-to-date municipal building code that requires all new builds to include effective, functional heat pumps for all units
Revitalizing public transit in areas not directly served by the former Transit Way system
Increasing safe, year-round biking infrastructure in your Ward (or all Wards)

RE: https://mastodon.social/@euronomy/117036700291497636
We need something like this for Canada eh? Or maybe we count as European now.

Quoting
New account, quick intro. We run euronomy.eu, a small directory of products and services that are actually made in Europe. EVs, e-bikes, tires, travel booking, that kind of thing.
It started with a simple annoyance: search for almost anything and the default answer is American or Chinese. The European options exist, they're just buried. So we dig them up and put them in one place.
Suggestions for the directory are welcome.

@grumpydad@infosec.exchange That's a good point! And we now share a land border with a European country!

@jvschrag@hachyderm.io Agreed. It is very bad. The video I watched this morning mentions it too. Some of the curves we have in our tracks as well as the rail itself are badly designed and force trains to slow down. The video also mentions why we have such a terrible south/north line.
