Over 50000 people marched in "The large climate demonstration" in central Stockholm today. The back of the crowd didn't even begin to move until two hours after the start of the march. After an additional two hours, the back of the crowd reached the final destination. By then, we had been standing or marching for about four and a half hours. This is back to the amount of people marching in climate protests before the pandemic, or perhaps even more. #climate #climateCrisis

Istället har man kylelement med fläktar, precis som ett utomhusaggregat för en värmepump. Men många av de datorhallar som det pratas om nu har inte slutna system. Då ångar man bort vattnet och får kyleffekten på det sättet.

Men de mera vettiga användningarna av bil var väl när vi åkte så att bilresan var en stor del av målet. T.ex. att åka på vackra vägar i Skottland eller Norge och kunna stanna till (nästan) var som helst. Det är ju förstås ännu bättre med cykel, men då måste säkerhets- och väderskyddsbitarna lösas. Men i bil är ju alla fången av föraren.

Annars gick jag, cyklade eller åkte buss/tåg. Förutom till orienteringstävlingar, då det var organiserad samåkning. Aldrig någonsin att det krävdes att föräldrarna skulle ställa upp med att skjutsa.

Bilen användes för att åka och hälsa på släktingar inne i stan varje helg (hade lätt kunnat göras med kollektivtrafik), handla mat (hade vi lika gärna kunnat göra till fots, vilket vi gjorde när inte pappa körde), semester, längre resor till släktingar (hade kunnat göras med tåg), längre resor till släktingars landställe (just dit behövdes i princip bil). Men så himla mycket användes inte bilen.

Fullständigt oreflekterad som jag uppfattar det. Folk har dessutom samma säkerhetsmarginaler när de kör bil på en parkeringsplats som om de hade gått till fots. Som om att knuffa till någon med en bil och med sig själv är samma sak. Som att trampa någon på foten och köra över någons fot är samma sak.

They never had any criteria (except maybe ”human made”) for what resources they ingest. For them, choosing is much more expensive than just taking everything. There is no chance you have anything approaching what the commercial systems have without at least piggybacking on carbon emission heavy efforts. You are driving the carbon emission heavy inference by your advocacy of AI. And inference is only one part.

@daringfireball@mastodon.social Regarding Apple paying for travel to their events: I attended WWDC in 2002, and Apple payed for my hotel and maybe my travel. This was because I was developing file system drivers for Mac OS X, which was quite new at the time, and they wanted me to attend. My university didn’t want to foot the whole bill, so Apple decided to pay. The file system people obviously had enough influence then. The PR people presumably has much more influence.

Sometimes it spans everything from weak assist to fatbikes without pedals, which means that ”e-bike accident” is almost made to be misunderstood. Sweden has a half decent definition where ”bicycles” have to have pedals and assist below 25km/h and 250W. But then they tacked on scooters to that (which of course don’t have pedals) and a 20km/h limit.

Within patriarchy there are at least two rules that are relevant here: women should not be believed over men, and a man doing something to a woman isn’t committing a crime unless another man thinks it’s an infringement on his domain.

@gwynnion@mastodon.social That is a very big simplification. The energy needed to run the AC is also emitted outside. Which is also the case for all other energy that has been transported to your house in the form of, for example, electricity or gas. So the problem is the energy consumption, not the heat that gets pumped in itself. If the house is not properly insulated or a lot of sun is let in, that energy increases, though. Things like PV can mitigate this somewhat, by not being transported energy.
