@Hex@kolektiva.social Around 1900 NYC had a population of 4-5 million and about 200k horses https://www.newyorkalmanack.com/2021/02/the-unpleasant-side-of-life-with-horses-in-cities/ In 2020, NYC has a population of almost 9 million and 2 million cars We replaced each single horse with 5 cars in the part of the country with the lowest rate of car ownership, the numbers are probably higher everywhere else. There is absolutely no way that's just replacing horses.

Generally hashtags are more important here than elsewhere

You can follow hashtags here and any post with that tag that makes it to your home instance (so if it's made or boosted by an account that is followed by someone on climatejustice.social) will get in your timeline.

It's a good way to find new people to follow and get more information on topics that interest you.

@annaecook@mastodon.social At my last job, they kept talking about all of the great AI chat bots which did things that someone had already made a chat bot to do 5 years ago and had it shut down for security reasons (chat bots are an escalation of privileges if they can do things you otherwise need to do 2 factor login for)

@jeffjarvis@mastodon.social From day 1 of Trump's second term, the democratic party should have held a weekly or even daily press conference debunking every lie since the last one. Just get someone charismatic to put in front of a camera and a team of fact checkers and researchers to look up the claims and release it as little clips on social media as well as on cable TV. I have heard so many people say variants of this idea and it is mind boggling that they haven't even tried anything like it.

While enforcement could be a challenge, this is a statement of intent by the Debian community, and we trust this community to adhere to it in good faith.

Nice, I still expect you to get a lot of "how will you enforce this" gotcha style questions from people who don't read past the title

@Ashedryden@xoxo.zone I find that whole debate stupid. For most of human history the way most people encountered stories was through oral tradition. Reading symbols on a page to get a story existed for a while but wasn't really an expectation until printing presses. I would argue that an audiobook is not reading because the mechanics are different (specifically around pacing yourself and skimming/rereading paragraphs etc.) but also that reading is not special and that's where the debate is.

After looking at it I realized that the backstop(is that the right term?) was broken and found a twig nearby that was the right thickness to shove it in there. Told him regularly to get it properly fixed but it stayed in there for years only to pop out when running away from cops shutting down a party one night.

@Ashedryden@xoxo.zone Basically if someone says "I read this book" (i.e. I processed/consumed but I hate that word this story) and meant they listened to the audiobook, that makes sense to me but if someone says "I'm going to go read" it seems a bit odd to me compared to "I'm going to listen to a book" since the action they will be doing is completely different even if it has the same outcome Does that make sense?
