Industrious slacker. Love spending time in my workshop and getting outdoors with my wife and our dogs. Have been known to brew beer and mix cocktails.
You can also find me at Counterwave (https://www.counterwave.com), where we make puzzles like OMBY — The Moby-Dick Unscrambling Game (https://www.counterwavegames.com/omby).
Previously at Sun, Apple, Verisign, HP, and several startups in between, working on distributed and federated systems.

@mike_bowler@hachyderm.io Never has there been a better argument for shorter meetings. I mean, better ventilation too, but I’d prioritize shorter meetings ;-)

And, yeah, I haven’t followed them since I was a kid, but I have fond memories

@markgritter Fun! Love Sol LeWitt's work and have fond memories of Rogue, but had never made the procedural art connection.
I assume you've seen the 3Blue1Brown video on Sol LeWitt's Cubes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BrFKp-U8GI

@TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place Yes! I actively use multiple languages, selecting the one with the best “impedance match” to the particular problem I’m trying to solve, and knowing what’s going on under the covers is a huge part of that analysis. I’m also a hybrid EE/CS and there is no doubt that understanding hardware architecture has helped me in my software career.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io I can tell you that, as someone who was a electronics / software hobbyist before I became a professional, I have rediscovered the joy of making for fun in retirement (I just didn't have the energy for it when I was working). The hardest part is having the discipline to finish things when there are no external drivers. Getting involved in communities of like-minded folks has been helpful there

@inthehands I have a soft spot for the original since I saw it in the theater when it came out, at a very formative age, but I'd still put Rogue One and Andor ahead it and all the others

@nicksherman @justvanrossum Related, there's also a lot of information in major/minor version numbers! Customers learn that, at least for some vendors, dot zero releases (eg 3.0) are effectively beta quality and should only be installed on test machines, waiting for the dot one release (eg 3.1) before deploying into production
