Dave frequents Burnout Café and Dalek Zone. Among other things, he builds websites, loves Linux and his cat, and occasionally talks to people. Dave empathises closely with Lister from the Red Dwarf and Ford Prefect from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Like them, he's mostly harmless. Dave shouldn't write his bio at 5 a.m., a time at which you should only be sleeping or drinking coffee. Maybe it's time for another coffee at Dave Café...

@stux@mstdn.social I had a user with this account. The account promptly posted multiple identical posts harassing a particular user. I had to suspend two accounts doing exactly the same thing.

@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org I definitely agree with the point you are making. Emergency service call dispatchers definitely should not be replaced by AI tech, the human presence is still absolutely essential.

@edgeofeurope@mastodon.social Rob, I’m not arguing for prudery, nor treating all nudity as pornography. Non-pornographic art, medical information, and education are obvious examples where nudity can be legitimate. I’m specifically arguing that Mastodon-branded generalist instances should not host pornography. I am also talking about preventing pornography from reaching people who did not deliberately opt into it by joining, following, or browsing adult-oriented servers and accounts. A free society can defend sexual freedom while still expecting explicit adult-only content to be properly contained. @Gryficowa@mastodon.social @staff@mastodon.social @Mastodon@mastodon.social @mwadmin@mastodon.world#mastodon #fediverse #pornography #moderation

Hi guys! 🙂 I’m moving this conversation away from Burnout Café’s @admin@burnout.cafe account and over to my personal account. The admin account is meant mainly for administration, moderation, and service information. It was me who wrote the posts about #pornography, #moderation, #mastodon, and the #fediverse. I stand by my policy arguments, but I accept that one phrase was badly chosen. I should have referred to pornography generally, not homosexual pornography specifically. I am not saying that gay people or gay sexual content uniquely endanger anyone. That is not what I believe. My view is that Mastodon-branded generalist instances such as mastodon.social, mastodon.online and mastodon.world should not host pornography, regardless of orientation, and should do more to prevent unexpected exposure to pornographic material federated from elsewhere. Content warnings and hashtags frequently are not being used, notably when posts are federated from other instances where they don't apply the same rules as mastodon.social and mastodon.online. So pornography without any obfuscation can reach people - including minors - who did not knowingly opt into adult content. Pornography can be hosted on other servers in the Fediverse, but I don't believe it should be on servers that are operated by the Mastodon project, or that are likely to be perceived by newcomers as Mastodon-branded entry points. Burnout Café’s server rules show the kind of lower-shock, non-pornographic general space I am trying to maintain. I support LGBT+ people living openly, safely, and equally. My argument is about pornography policy on major Mastodon entry-point instances, not about opposing LGBT+ rights or expression. People are free to disagree with me. I am also free to argue for stricter moderation. I am happy to discuss the actual policy issues: consent, containment, age-safety, public timelines, federation, and the role of Mastodon-branded generalist instances. I am not interested in turning the debate into a trial of motives. @Gryficowa@mastodon.social @bachimusprime@estradiol.city @staff@mastodon.social @Mastodon@mastodon.social @mwadmin@mastodon.world #pornography #mastodon #fediverse #moderation

@Anna@burnout.cafe Heavens, Anna, have you seen the length of the "eldright cafe" suspended server list? There must be over a hundred server's there. 😂 I think you'd have to say the server admin(s) is/are somewhat hypersensitive. 😆

@gbargoud@masto.nyc @stux@mstdn.social I've been noticing that the AI-powered signups were initially quite crude and easy to detect, but that they are quickly becoming more refined. They seem to create accounts that aren't initially active, but that could be "sleeper" accounts that might start posting at some particular point in the future. Maybe I have been watching too much James Bond? 😆

@byteseu@pubeurope.com This claim that "two thirds" of Londoners support re-joining the European Union is apparently based on a poll of 1038 people. And there isn't actually a link to the poll and its results in the article. So the article is rather misleading. (And I'm actually quite pro-EU and live in the EU.)
