@futurebird@sauropods.win this post reminded me to watch again this video of a fellow who built a robot for stealing pop cans from vending machines. I love how expensive this surely was compared to just buying a few drinks, and how enthusiastic he is (fun even if you don't speak French) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TLXXLY7zewo

Now that the UCP has introduced a form to let people complain about bike lanes - and ONLY complain about them, definitely not support them - maybe consider using Bike Edmonton's form to speak in support of bike lanes https://bikeedmonton.ca/bikelanes #yegbike #yycbike

@stephanie@ottawa.place @stux@mstdn.social Sure, the madness is that they built a massive stadium and shopping mall, in a spot that's surrounded on three sides by a river and a canal, built highways all around it, bridges over the river and the canal, a tram line to it - and didn't put sidewalks on ANY of the bridges or roads approaching it. All the car infrastructure (and even the tram tracks) were built as fortifications against pedestrian access.

@evacide@hachyderm.io The /share/ directory isn't listable (and I surely hope they got at least that much right from the get-go). That ought to mean Google bot can't directly crawl those interactions, and needs a starting hint to find each one, right? So someone must have placed the share link in something google-indexable... Does Google use links in people's gmail mailboxes as starting points to crawl websites or something?

@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social Shotguns are also, if I'm not mistaken, a lot less dangerous to shoot off in populated areas if the appropriate birdshot shells are used. Not that shooting any kind of gun is safe to do in a populated area. But I think bird shot fired at a sharp upward angle shouldn't come down at potentially lethal speeds someplace random, the way a pistol or rifle bullet would...

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world i think it's starting - Oracle got its credit downgraded specifically because it's too much of an AI company and its stock is down 50% in like the last 45 days. SpaceX which is mostly xAI is down to below what it opened its IPO at. Even Nvidia is down some from a few months ago. OpenAI and Anthropic are showing some signs of panic about their upcoming IPOs.

@0xabad1dea I love the warriors sitting between the kid and Aqualung-era Ian Anderson - two staring straight ahead "we're gonna get through this, just think about the fishing trip, that'll be fun, he will stop singing at some point and on Tuesday we go fishing", one's given up hope, and one is still engaging enough with the lyrics to give the musician side-eye over what he just sang with a child present.

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online I really support legal weed, so to reverse this we should ban something else. Maybe bread. No more going to an impersonal bakery or - heaven forbid - the alienating bread aisle in a supermarket. Text your local bread guy "can I stop by for a coffee in an hour?", carefully not mentioning what you actually want to buy. Arrive, hoping to get some sourdough rye. All he has today is ciabatta and brioche. Make the requisite small talk, hide your bread under your coat and leave.

@ratsnakegames@mastodon.social @eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place We've built our environment such that not being able to drive deprives people of full participation - access to work, medical care, education, leisure, social contact. Which means taking away someone's ability to drive is a harsh punishment. So, when someone hasn't done anything wrong, they're just innocently and with the best of intentions unable to safely operate a car - we just let them keep doing it, on the principle that we shouldn't punish the innocent.
