@eestileib @artemis this is something that I encounter in "echos." People may not say it directly but there is an undercurrent of "I hope it fails" I pick up in politcal conversations across the board.
I think - think - its a desire to see the system break so we can get on with it. That whatever comes is better or more in our control.

@corbden@defcon.social I and some friends read Unger's "Religion of the Future" together (and some still obsess on it). One thing he notes is how we easily enslave ourselves to dead ideas and people and ignore the living. It really stands out.
So anyway the US decided to elect a violent pedophile and now everything is screwed up and people are surprised.
This is also a reminder EVERY action matters. Other people were stupid, you don't have to be. You matter.
A factor that needs to be considered in the Iran War and the Strait of Hormuz is that simply, we won't be sure anything is over until well after it's over. Between misinformation, bad reporting, Trump's random announcements and past lies, plus an Iranian government ready to go to the mat? We don't know what to trust or if it will last.
Meaning when it's over it won't be over until well after it's over.

@Lana I plan to reread my copy of the "Art of War" just to compare. Seriously.
An idea discussed among friends - Muppet remakes of classic Monster films - Frankenstein, The Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, etc.
The Monster is played by a real human in makeup.. Everything else is Muppets. You hew to the plots of the original as close as you can, even while you "muppetize them" and add more humor. Audiences will wonder both IF you'll go off the rails AND how you manage to stay on.
Release one every year on Halloween. Rake in the money.

People need to connect with and care about people and their institutions. From local towns to your hobbyist group, from a given cause to your profession. I think that's what's missing and what's needed - a web of something that MATTERS.
Involvement and meaning are one here.
I've tried to work to phrase this better and perhaps I should put in more effort.
