Any unchecked industrial development poses dangers. The error is in accepting we have no agency over safeguarding society.

Let's be clear, when AI executives raise alarms and call for 'regulation', they are not in fact asking to be regulated. They are trying to get ahead of the much needed and inevitable oversight of their industry through 'regulatory capture.' Think of the current FCC which censors Jimmy Kimmel and rubber stamps Musk's Starlink orbital contagion. What we need is comprehensive effective regulation of our digital infrastructure with harsh financial and criminal penalties for these miscreants.

Employing an air pollution analogy, we are currently in the 1960s version of regulation of our digital infrastructure. This is not inevitable or necessarily permanent.
