@fanf42@social.treehouse.systems this is an old idea from the 1970s for starting industry in space - NASA then did experiments with microwave receiver arrays and a helicopter with an emitter and found out that beam divergence and scattering makes it inefficient now they say laser but it'll have similar problems - in effect, each microwave or laser array in orbit would be somewhat of a weapon

@halcy @aeva I think this could actually work - and it would be even better if it wasn't programmed but remotely operated by a painting tool - something on the level of WigglyPaint: limited palette, single brush size Edit: and then you 'replay' the original remote inputs and make a limited amount of unique copies - then treat machine and computer with a sledgehammer and burn it

@fixatedpersonsunit my personal dystopia is that with that sort of AR technology, real space could start being discounted even more, but on purpose: the design of public space extended to AR is encroached by brands and ad markets, and without the ads, things might look worse - reality as a lever to get people into the brand/ad pipelines

It's already showing that Musk doesn't align with US policy in every case and sees himself as unbound by any interests (i.e. taxes from company, capabilities) behind that financial support (cf.
