Working on a tactics RPG. Not using AI.
Might be slightly controversial to say, but I’ve started enjoying Mastodon more after accepting it as a social network mostly for neurodivergent people.
It’s small and probably going to stay that way, but I honestly like having a place mostly just for us. It’s like the early internet again, but this time we know why we are the way we are.
Neat thing I didn’t know about fonts: they use integers! Each glyph in Fontra uses a 1000x1000 canvas by default, but you can change it.
At ~16x16 it feels like a fun little puzzle. Low-poly modelling with integer positions, but the vertices are actually cubic spline control points.
Just want it to be known that @ivory@tapbots.social is a nice piece of software and I appreciate the care put into it.
It starts and closes instantly, always runs silky smooth, never forgets UI state, follows OS human interface guidelines, uses sensible typography…. It just works.
Starting a side project for the first time in ages: making a font using Fontra. It’s an extensive open-source editor built around variable fonts. https://fontra.xyz
Not exactly the most intuitive app ever, but the €300 alternatives aren’t either. Fonts are hard. The first tutorial video here gives a good overview. https://docs.fontra.xyz/tutorials/
spectacular terrain rendering bug
Some neat artwork I found browsing https://www.nga.gov/artwork-search. (Credits in alt texts.)
These 3 font foundries price licenses by amount of employees in your company. So no subscriptions, domain restrictions, or anxiety about how many “views” your product is getting. Simple and obvious, I love it.

What other foundries do this?
No idea what I’m doing but the overall shape of this glyph feels pretty neat. Maybe there’s something there if I can just redraw it with curves.
“Now draw the rest of the owl” vibes….
Wife and I were pleased to finally hear this, and there must be a few other couples out there who will be too, so: Civilization VII has added hotseat multiplayer.
Lake waves slowly shaking spring ice apart. Not sure if it’ll survive the video compression, but the cracked edges glint prettily.
More people need to know about lit-html. (It’s not a framework or a web components thing.) https://lit.dev/docs/libraries/standalone-templates/
You get to render HTML like this:
```
render(
html`Hello`,
document.body
)
```
and then to update it like this:
```
render(
html`Hello world`,
document.body
)
```
It takes care of all the diffing, patching, and memoizing. The performance is good. You get to structure your program around it any way you like. It’s great.
Wild the #Artemis2 streams are running perfectly smooth with 3.5M+ people watching. That’s a silly amount of bandwidth. https://youtube.com/watch?v=nfhDuOHMp0A
