Moonlighting as an indie gamedev. Wears many hats but programming is my forte. Livestreaming #gamedev on #twitch every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Software QA to pay the bills. Emphasis on automation but I've done most of the things.
Last boost: the repeated mention of "delivery instability" in discussion about LLM coding should be treated as a serious warning about the measurable quality of generated code. While stuff like modularity, readability etc are good things to aim for, the ultimate measure of software quality is "does it work?"
Redoing releases because of major errors shows the answer to that question is "no" That also means that productivity is quite likely being reduced thanks to extra support and delivery work
Old video based on old meme but god I love this one so much
Doing a bit more reading about Rust as part of some casual research for a project I may or may not ever work on.
Thusfar I have not seen anything that made me go "ugh, this will be a pain in the ass" which is nice. For comparison this is what set it off with other languages:
1) Perl - instantly, using symbols for type semantics should have died with BASIC if anything Perl makes it worse
2) Java - Checked exceptions
3) Go - Combining the worst of C-style and Java-style error handling into one
I am, once again, getting that weird urge to design and write an operating system. This one feels less strong though.
Sometimes I wish I didn't have to work full time to support my family so I could do weird experiments in software and tinker in my workshop. Ok, maybe not sometimes.
I am currently experiencing the frustration of *almost* being able to read and understand French content but not quite having the spoons to invest time in French lessons.
I really should just push myself to do it sometime.
Today in dog frustrations... My big fuzzbutt decided to roll around in a pile of wild animal vomit because she liked the smell. There was a river near the trail so she could be rinsed off at least and not smell up the car as bad.
Still needed to spend the morning giving the her a thorough bath to get the stink fully removed.
I spent a bit of time today doing a bit of post jam followup on my #jernjam project.
My intention is to rework some aspects of my story deck system to make it easier to do some kinds of plot management without needing to track tons of cards everywhere.
Instead of having player actions insert individual event cards it's now possible for them to insert an entire deck into the hand to be played. I also changed how shuffling is done to avoid redrawing the same card multiple times.
