23 and rainy > 32 and sunny, so I went for a walk. Learned that some Bank of Canada people have been on strike for 17 days, and the employer brought in scabs, and the CIRB said "no, you have to get rid of the scabs," and that's expected to happen in the next couple of days. Also apparently the people on strike have been allowed to work from home. The person I spoke to seemed annoyed about this because it meant fewer Canadians were aware of their action. But I wondered if this means the key to getting to work from home is going on strike.

Did I die from laughter or from climate disaster, who can say.

Okay, I have now prepared two postcards in the context of the #ThisIsNotFine project, "Postage-free by law!" written in the corner where a stamp would otherwise go. Address on the right side, lots of info crammed onto the left (drafted in pencil first, then inked). Postcard 1, to Julie Dabrusin, MP for Toronto-Danforth, Minister of the Environment, lawyer: your environmental policies are killing human beings and entire species and eco-systems; Liberal policy is genocide and ecocide; Do better for $217,700 + $103,600 + car allowance. Postcard 2, to Governor General Louise Arbour, former Supreme Court of Canada Justice, former prosecutor of war crimes, former United Nations Commissioner of Human Rights: I hope you will be similarly clear in your current role; Current government policies promote genocide of Indigenous peoples, extinction of entire species, and climate collapse; Please use your privilege; Please don't be smilingly complicit through this. #CanPoli #ClimateCrisis

FYI, I emailed the guy and learned the data is correct: "What you are seeing is actually correct, but the perspective is likely off. The graphs are displayed using a fixed scale based on the results observed over the past few years. Compared with the much higher concentrations measured during seasonal peaks or across the past years in general, the current values are very low levels, as such what we are currently detecting can appear almost flat and very close to zero on the graph. In addition, the lines (curves) displayed on the website are generated using a moving average. PS if you double click the lines it will zoom in for you and you will see the low level SAR-CoV-2 (covid) values we are detecting. A bit of a summary of what is happening, our recent results suggest that Influenza A has not been detected since the end of April. COVID-19 is being detected as low values, please double click the orange line to see the values, or hover your mouse over the line to read the values. Influenza B, and RSV are still being detected sporadically, even though their seasonal peaks have now passed. However, these detections are infrequent and remain at very low concentrations."

@CTHW@mstdn.ca I don't understand what your question is. Letting CEOs, domestic or foreign, extract more profit from public services doesn't benefit anyone except those CEOs.

@CTHW@mstdn.ca I think the Australian example cited in that article is instructive. I think it is... unrealistic to expect that Mark Carney is going to put any sort of guard rails on the sale that would protect customers going forward. That would discourage investors, domestic or foreign, who only want to invest *because* they see the possibility of significant profit. In an industry that already demands hours and hours and hours of free labour of its workers. Right? The profit has to come from somewhere. It will either be from workers or from customers. It will not be from CEOs. I believe it was $12 million per year the (anglophone) CEO of Air Canada was getting, while refusing to pay workers for the full extent of their labour? And he knew he could get away with it because Mark Carney would use s. 107 to force workers back to work. And now Mark Carney's musing about changing the Labour Code because it gives too much power to workers. *That's* the current state of oversight.

@CTHW@mstdn.ca I mean as Prime Minister of Canada, doing such things as ordering workers who aren't paid for their labour back to work for wealthy CEOs, as discussed above. You disagree that Mark Carney is good at, in fact widely praised for, pithy phrases?
