- Cat cleanup dooty is the new normal
- Former boss call-out in a polite, private way after he dismisses your concerns on an email chain
- Lots of dips available today
It might just be cool enough yet to go outside.
Game store and thrift shop haul today. #physicalmedia #books #dvds #film
A lot of negligent, thirsty-ass vampires gonna bite it.
Too hot for outdoor exercise. I'm a wimp. Two movies tonight.
First up, Spun (2002), a drug crime black comedy directed by Jonas Åkerlund, starring Jason Schwartzman, John Leguizamo, Mena Suvari, Patrick Fugit, Peter Stormare, Alexis Arquette, Deborah Harry, Rob Halford, Eric Roberts, Chloe Hunter, Nicholas Gonzalez, Brittany Murphy, and Mickey Rourke.

After that, The Lark Farm (2006), directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, starring Paz Vega, Moritz Bleibtreu, Alessandro Preziosi and others, about the Armenian Genocide.
-
Productive day at work. Also, picked up 4 milk crates at a garage sale.
-
Heated up some vegetables on the stove, after putting one of my volunteer butternut squashes in the oven to bake. The veggies I'll eat right now.
-
Two movies tonight.
First, Army of Crime (2009), directed by Robert Guédiguian, about a WWII French Resistance unit led by an Armenian. Serious.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Army_of_Crime
Second, Paint (2023), directed by Brit McAdams, starring Owen Wilson, Michaela Watkins, Ciara Renée, Stephen Root, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lucy Freyer, Lusia Strus, and Michael Pemberton. It's about a small time TV paint show rivalry. Funny.
Wealth represents a demand on future resources, which may not ever materialize. It also prevents use of present resources by the poor (or by the public).
Three movies tonight, if you will.
First Bloody Sunday (2002), a docudrama directed by Paul Greengrass, starring James Nesbitt, Tim Pigott-Smith, Nicholas Farrell, Gerard McSorley, and Kathy Kiera Clarke. It's about the Troubles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(film)
After that, a duo of Shinya Tsukamoto films.
First, Tokyo Fist (1995), starring the director, his brother Kōji Tsukamoto, and Kahori Fujii.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Fist
Second, Bullet Ballet (1998), starring the director, Hisashi Igawa, Sujin Kim, Kirina Mano, Takahiro Murase, Tatsuya Nakamura and Kyōka Suzuki.
Just finished Croupier (1998), a British thriller directed by Mike Hodges, starring Clive Owen, Kate Hardie, Alex Kingston, Gina McKee and Nicholas Ball. A writer becomes a croupier. I remember renting this on VHS back in the day. I found it on DVD recently and snapped it up. Good movie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croupier_(film)
Next up, Birth (2004), a psychological thriller directed by Jonathan Glazer, starring Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, Cameron Bright, Danny Huston, Arliss Howard, Peter Stormare, Ted Levine, Anne Heche, and Cara Seymour.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_(2004_film)
Lastly, I think Radioflash (2019), a post-apocalyptic thriller directed by Ben McPherson, starring Brighton Sharbino, Dominic Monaghan, Will Patton, Fionnula Flanagan and Miles Anderson.
- Didn't leave town and spend a lot of money.
- Got my mowing done.
- The cat whines to go outside but isn't running from me when I pick her up before she does something stupid.
Welcome to the hot take and spitballing machine that is social media.
- Big bike ride Sunday morning (and one pending tonight).
- Friend's birthday dinner tomorrow night.
- Criterion 50% off sale at B&N starting tomorrow, whether or not I participate.
-
Ran errands for my Dad today at lunch and after work, so I ate one of last season's stuffed peppers for lunch.
-
After the last errand, I stopped at a flooring place and priced out what it would take to redo the floors in two rooms. Affordable.
-
When I got home I decided to make a veggie lasagna, which I just put in the oven.
Also:
-
I was able to move my project work to a different stage and run up against another obstacle to ask for help with.
-
Thinking about what movies to watch tonight. I have thousands to choose from just in this room, most of which I have never seen. Here you go:
-
Confess, Fletch (2022), directed by Greg Mottola, starring Roy Wood Jr., Annie Mumolo, Ayden Mayeri, Lorenza Izzo, Kyle MacLachlan, and Marcia Gay Harden. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confess%2C_Fletch
-

Just finished Reacher S1 D3 (I'd watched the first two last night, not just the 1st).
Now I'm starting The Prophet's Game (2000), directed by David Worth, starring Dennis Hopper, Stephanie Zimbalist, Robert Yocum, Joe Penny, Sondra Locke, Michael Dorn, Don Swayze, and Shannon Whirry. It's about the race to catch a serial killer.
- Chocolate chips.
- Cats who use the litterboxes.
- Workplaces and coworkers who don't shit the bed all the time. Who take ownership either way.

The Onion is absolutely killing it with the new Infowars upgrade!

Dad's now at a rehab facility after his operations and nearly weeklong hospital stay. I had a little walk with my friend after work and missed his call. I'm sure now that I've started a movie he'll call.
-
First movie is Dark Journey (1937), a British spy movie directed by Victor Saville, starring Conrad Veidt, Vivien Leigh and Joan Gardner.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Journey_(1937_film)
- Second, I Am Omega (2007), a straight to video film directed by Griff Furst, starring Mark Dacascos, Geoff Meed, Jennifer Lee Wiggins, and Ryan Lloyd. It is what you think it is. Or at least so I presume.
I'm currently about 1/5 of the way in to Kim Stanley Robinson's New York 2140 and enjoying it, as I have every goddamn thing he's ever written. Seriously, it's all good. Long stories, with lots of human interest for all their high concepts.
- No known decent garage sales in area for me to spend money at.
- Making some progress at work.
- Cat spent a few hours lounging about indoors this morning, leaving only after she pooped in the wrong places.
#3goodthings because I just saw someone else's from earlier
- Knowing the evil that lurks in the hearts of men
- Coming to a safe stop on a slippery road
- Having a 3 mile walk with someone who needs to tell me a stressful story to get it out of her system
Hey. #3goodthings
-
Dad got through his toe surgery well. He has an angiogram set for his legs tomorrow as they're fully blocked, which wouldn't have been found if he hadn't gone through the hospital intake rigamarole.

Got some cool movies in the mail today. I haven't been sharing hauls with you for a week but you're about to get slammed. This one includes an Assayas film, six Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman films, and Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple, all on DVD, the last one Criterion. I'm watching Demonlover (2002), directed by Olivier Assayas, first.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonlover
- Second, I plan to watch Samurai II (1955), directed by Hiroshi Inagaki. I had the other two in the series but for some reason didn't have this one. This whole set came from an eBay purchase. #stoked
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_II:_Duel_at_Ichijoji_Temple
So you can read all about it.
Screw this whole business. I'm starting Reacher S1, D1. No, I haven't read the books, but I've seen the movies and some clips from this show. I'm ready to go.
