This is one of my first season milkweeds. I foraged the seeds from a nearby plant and got them going indoors and everything. This one in particular got eaten to the ground twice. Both times, it came back as twice as many plants. One thing I've been learning this year through gardening is that plants are incredible. They have their limits (our sunflowers didn't recover from being repeatedly chomped), but some of them really spring back. #milkweed #nativePlants #gardening

How fitting that the day after Carney officially abandons the previous climate change policies, Canada Day celebrations are canceled in Ottawa due to flooding. It's almost like physics doesn't care how hard it is to address climate change. #cdnpoli #climateChange

Finally got around to getting a mammogram. The process was physically uncomfortable, but the technician was cool and let me see the images. And I definitely don't have cancer (at least in this one particular part of my body they looked at), so that's a plus too. #mammogram #womensHealth #preventativeMedicine

@Beggarmidas@mastodon.social when you say that identity politics can wait, what do you mean by that? Because it sounds an awful like you're suggesting that the rights of women, people of colour and LGBT+ people don't matter. Also, neo-liberalism isn't working out for white dudes either, so I'm not sure why "avoiding identity politics" helps them. @selzero@syzito.xyz

@JonChevreau Musk isn't going to invent immortality. That man hasn't invented a single thing in his whole life and doesn't know anything about biology, let alone enough to conquer death. He might put his name on someone else's invention, but he doesn't create for himself. @Remittancegirl

@Daojoan@mastodon.social in the early 2000s, my mom was sending me nonsense emails and I was replying with snopes links. In the 2010s, that basically changed to her posting nonsense on Facebook. So many people don't bother fact checking at all.

Pokeweed or no? I didn't plant anything exactly here, but I accept some volunteers. It's crowding out some plants I do want and I don't think I want poisonous plants in my garden, even if they are native and beneficial otherwise because I have a child and it's also overcrowding a few things I did plant. It's coming up as a 38% chance match for pokeweed on PlantNet with a drop off after that. #gardening #nativePlants

It's funny seeing so many Earth Day sales. Needless consumption is the opposite of supporting the environment.

You don't need to buy anything to celebrate Earth Day. The first "R" in the three Rs is Reduce.

Reduce the things you buy. Reuse, repair and refurbish the things you already have. Not just on Earth Day, but every day.

@RickiTarr@beige.party as Trevor Noah quotes his mom in his autobiography: "The way my mother always explained it, the traditional man wants a woman to be subservient, but he never falls in love with subservient women. He's attracted to independent women. "He's like an exotic bird collector," she said. "He only wants a woman who is free because his dream is to put her in a cage."

@indivisibleteam gerrymandering of any kind should be flat out illegal. Boundaries should have to be drawn following county/city lines or roads, rivers etc with a minimal perimeter to area ratio and decided by a non-partisan committee or something.

@afewbugs@social.coop yeah, I remember my flat in the UK where we'd run the heating on full constantly in the winter and wear jumpers and it was still chilly because the insulation was awful. Plus our landlord refused to replace the very inefficient heater even though he spent more repairing the damn thing during our tenancy than it would have cost to replace it with a higher efficiency one (there was a part that kept burning out because it was designed badly).

@JPK_elmediat that's how I would assume he means it. Unfortunately, it looks like Trump and Netanyahu set off a powderkeg and this looks like it could become a bigger conflict. Turkiye had to shoot down some Iranian missiles and they're a NATO member who could maybe invoke Article 5 if something lands. @SnowyCA @dyckron

@courtcan@mastodon.social ah, my mom never said anything negative in response to the Snopes debunking. I did start these corrections by emailing her individually and then eventually just hit reply all with my debunking after a few attempts. Then one of her friends who was in that email chain thought that my email address belonged to his daughter with the same first name and it got all awkward, but she did stop emailing me those kinds of things. @Daojoan@mastodon.social

So I guess the question I have is whether anyone actually agreed on the ceasefire terms in the first place or whether Trump and the administration is just lying about what they agreed to and they're changing their story?

I feel like what happened is that Trump made a threat that was too far (genocide is an obvious war crime, the military might not do it) and didn't want to have to carry it out, so he agreed to whatever Iran wanted in the moment and is now trying to walk it back.

@AG7GM@mastodon.radio at some point, I think it was the Tories in the UK had some issue sending letters out where they messed up names with apostrophes. You'd think everyone in the UK would be good at handling those since the UK includes Northern Ireland, but apparently not. I also knew someone who had a hyphenated first name and apparently that's not something computers expect. @ajh@indieweb.social @NanoRaptor@bitbang.social
