Vivaldi Browser
It's a web browser. It's Powerful. It's Personal. It's Private.
Big Tech is at it again.
Some of you might have seen this already. Google has announced a new policy for Android app developers, which would require them to seek Google’s permission if they want to distribute their apps outside of the Google Play Store (on their own website or on alternative app stores). This would entail:
1) agreeing to their terms and conditions
2) paying a fee
3) uploading a government ID
Which is wrong on so many levels. Nobody should be forced to register with Google if they don’t want to use their services.
In doing so they would be extending their gatekeeping (tentacles) into distribution channels where they’re just not a legitimate authority.
At Vivaldi, we believe you have the right to run whatever software you want on a device you own. That’s why we’ve co-signed this open letter, together with other 53 organisations, requesting Google to back off on the proposed policy before it enters into force.
(Plus, they have have a pretty cool logo 😄)

When it’s spring, but you remember you live in Norway…🙄
Happy Easter everyone!
Over the weekend we hosted a “dugnad” together with our friends at Hudd (a Norwegian social network) and @protonprivacy@mastodon.social. A dugnad is a Norwegian gem of a word meaning communal work. As in "this job is too big for one person, but if we all pitch in, it won’t be so bad".
The Digital Dugnad is about helping each other switch away from Big Tech and dumping them in the trash. We are honored and overwhelmed by the response! Huge thank you to all of the volunteers who hosted dugnads all over Norway from north (almost close to the North Pole!) to south. T
To get started on your journey away from Big Tech, you can go to https://digitaldugnad.eu (if you can read Norwegian, that is 😉). Should we scale this up to other countries?

After last week's update, you can now enjoy a Daily Image option for your Start Page on both iOS and Android ✨
A nice little detail for those of us who get easily bored!
To enable it, go to Settings > Start Page > Wallpaper and select “Use Daily Image”, or tap on “Customize” at the bottom of the Start Page and enable “Use Daily Image”.
Today we launched Tabs As A Service...but only on LinkedIn 😄
Why? Because it's April 1st and this was the dumbest new vertical we could think of.
We would never charge nor judge you for any number of tabs you have open or how many tab management features you use.
To any PE or VC fund feeling like this was supposed to be your golden ticket to ascend into tech-heaven. Sorry, not sorry.
To you who thought it seemed fair to charge for TaaS, get it for free by clicking the link in the comments.
To our community and friends, we love you, and we love tabs. ❤️
We're pleased to confirm that TaaS is free forever!
\📱Vivaldi モバイル版も 7.9 に進化!/
