המילה "מילה" בפינית היא "sana". לומדים זאת די מוקדם. לכן התפלאתי כשהגיעה לגן של ילדיי ילדה חדשה בשם סאנה. אך פליאתי הייתה לשווא, מאחר שלא קוראים לה Sana, אלא Saana!
והיום פגשתי סאנה נוספת, אבל בעצם זו סאנה אחרת לגמרי, שהרי שמה הוא Sanna!

I'm officially launching my job search journey outside of #academia and into the unknown waters of #industry .
I have a PhD in Mathematics, specifically logic and set-theory. I have basic understanding of programming, and beginning to learn #Python.

Eco-shaming a person who expressed a real problem in their lives being solved in a not-so-ecological way is not the way to solve the problem.
The finger needs to be pointed upwards, to the companies and regulators.
It is very temoting to sy "if everyone made the individual choice to not use it thrn it would stop" but we are so far from reaching "everyone" or even a significant enough portion of users to make a difference by pointing individual fingers.

I think declaring the enslavement of Africans as a grave crime against humanity, and moving towards amending the consequences it has to this days are very important.
But I find it hard to understand the need to rank and compare crimes against humanity and declare one as "the gravest".
Both on a theoretical level - every suffering is different, and comparison is impossible; and on a practical level - it may antagonize groups who suffered themselves, instead of creating solidarity.

I discussed it (the binge method) with my partner, who is dyslexic, and she says she feels that this doesn't work well enough for her - she needs the explicit explanations to grasp grammar and the constant repetituon to not forget.
She says that research usually screens out dyslexic people, so the conclusions cannot be applied to them - is that so?
Dobyou know of language acquisition research nd methods focusing on dyslexic people?

But one can agrue that preparing a copy of a book to be digested by LLM training is reproduction, and hence infringement if not explicitely allowed by the copyright holder.
There is an ongoing debate regarding this last argument. It is not clear cut.

Not that I'm advocating any changes, but if you look at the definition, then the Fediverse is actually *not* a federation, in which there is a central entity to which the others are subordinate.
Perhaps the "Confediverse" would have been a better term 😜 Then it could easily morph into "Confettiverse" which is even better! 🎊

Not a copyright expert but I think you are wrong here.
You say yourself "What becomes illegal is reproducing and distributing copyrighted material." But then you only focus on distribution, ignoring reproduction.
If I scan a physical book, that's reproduction. Following your logic, that may be fair use if I don't distribute it, but it's still infringement. That's relatively clear.

personally I got a fairphone for the very purpose of not having to replace it for as long as I can. I got a fp4 a bit over a year ago, and it's simply an OK phone - nothing fancy, not shitty.
my main complaint are battery life, which was a problem in any phone I had since the Nokia brick, and the fact that Google assistant keeps shoving itself at my face.

I'd suggest that it has to dobwith the fact that Mint is pased on Ubuntu's repos, which probably use a lot of gnome dependencies, ad Ubuntu itself is using (a varint of) gnome in its main flavour

You refer to #AgeVerification. Assume there is a method where a website can get an age verification from the user which only answers the question "is the user above x ?" without disclosing any other user data. Do you oppose requiring adult wesites to use such a method?

We are at an interesting stage where a panopticon infrastructure actually exists, but the vast majority are not yet affected since it evades their consciousness. Surveilence capitalism wants a hidden panopticon, as it wants to manipulate, not directly control.
But the same infrastructure can be easily used by authoritarians - all they need to do is make the panopticon known.

Is it really? I used to think the same, but I'm not sure anymore. When it's part of a movement, I can agree. But when you are the only one around not using a tool, it feels like you are just crippling yourself, for the sake of being right.
