The bad news is that age verification for porn is a dangerous back door for introducing age verification for literally everything, which also means having true ID exposed. That scenario, in a time in which dictatorships and fascism are raising, is extremely dangerous for everyone

Some reasons because of this may not happen could be that still people who manually accept follow request will need to accept your request again, also you may be unable to follow some users now because their instance is blocked by your one or vice-versa. Did you lost a large amount of your contacts in the migration?
