Aging enby, with (mostly) CIS partner and two children in their thirties. Migraines down to 1/month. Programmer, knitter by hobby (to the extent that someone who can't do 40 stitches w/o mistakes can be called a knitter).
Header Alt Text: A picture of a raised bed garden, with a prominent squash plant, and some tomatoes and onions and snapdragons.
Profile Alt Text: Me smiling with red (anti migraine) tinted glasses, two ponytails, orange earrings, and a purple and gray sweater.

@DMTomas@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io Across time and culture the notion for what is "real" poetry have changed. I studied Old English (Anglo-Saxon) a bit for a while, and learned they didn't care for rhyme between lines, but wanted a pattern of alliteration within lines; Viking poets were expected to be able to create a poem to honor a person or commemorate an occasion *on the spot* (with rules that included having different meter from line to line -- iambic pentameter was considered boring, because it was just normal speaking pattern). I'm guessing that what makes your poems good is the time and thought you put in to choosing the right words and best ways to say something. If you spent the same effort alphabetizing the lines, or alliterating words in the lines, or any other poetry rules from other places or time, you would still get quality -- just a different quality.

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt ... but if you don't think you can be a writer, but you want to be (and if you believe LLMs can 'write' without understanding the meaning of the words they spit out), then it makes sense. LLMs 'help' people who are lacking confidence, but by giving them false confidence. Short cuts can be like that.

Pop up I'm tired of seeing:

"
Your Privacy is important to us!
May we take it from you?
**YES** no
"

I suspect when they say "important to us" they don't mean what they want you to think they mean.

@DMTomas@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io For me, a poem is not about separate lines nor perfect rhymes. It's about capturing truth in metaphor that can't be captured in a net of facts. But that's me, I'm guessing there are thousands of ways of seeing this. (and in English "white" verse is "blank verse")

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place Actually, banning could work: Ban all users harmed by Meta from using Meta. Enforce this by block all incoming connections to Meta. Repeat for Google, Amazon, ... Remove (on a trial basis) the blocks when the relevant company can demonstrate in a small experiment that their behavior is not harmful.

@davidho@mastodon.world I know this idea goes against of recycling wisdom, but combining something like this with simply burying the plastic generated would be a form of carbon storage that has the potential to actually *store* the carbon. Capturing CO2 and putting it into soda (as an example) is actually just carbon postponement, as are some of the other proposals. You would still want to know things like "what does this do to our ground water," and "what are the side effects of this plastic generation" -- but in a sense, this is C02 back to buried oil.
