accidentally just said "gigglebytes" instead of "gigabytes" in a meeting

I build distributed systems and try to make life just a little bit more bearable for the people around me.
One of my pet peeves about Redis is that the documentation is often aspirational. And by that I mean it would be great if it worked that way but it doesn't.
For example, the `JSON.NUMINCRBY` command says it returns a string or an array containing ints/nulls depending on which JSONPath type you use. Not only does it return the same type in both cases, but it isn't either of these.
RE: @BleepingComputer@infosec.exchange
Computers used to be useful. Now everything that runs on electricity is nothing but scams and surveillance.
Looking at the current state of the tech industry, it's absolutely wild to remember that there was a whole decade where people would say "You're a developer? Don't say that too loud, someone might try to hire you!"
When I see the word "count" abbreviated in code as `cnt`, I never read it as "count"
The AI code-review bot my company uses just wasted 2 hours of my time. It reported a bug in cache logic in a PR. I didn't change caching, but it's a Rails app so unexpected invalidations and indeterminate staleness can both happen. Report said it doesn't invalidate properly, so I investigated but couldn't find the bug.
It was talking about the fact that these cache entries can be stale for up to 2 minutes, which is intentional. There's even a comment about it right above my changes.
I installed Google Meet on my phone because I need to run an errand but I need to listen in on this meeting.
The app has now asked for access to not only my camera and mic, which are reasonable in a video-chat app, but also location, contacts, and *fitness data*. What the proverbial fuck?
I'm going to start giving team updates at work as "bug fixes and performance improvements".
If it's good enough for app updates …
I just remembered this email I got from Reddit. I was living in Australia when signed up on Reddit, so they wanted to let me know that if I'm under 16 I won't be able to use Reddit anymore.
The funniest part about it is that, not only have I not even set foot in Australia in over 10 years, but they also know I'm over 16 because *the account itself* existed for more than 16 years when they sent the email.
when i get paged over the weekend
In the GitHub pull request UI, you can suggest patches in a review comment. There is an "Apply suggestion" button underneath that patch inside the comment.
Now that my coworkers are all AI-pilled, when I put together a patch for someone's branch in code review, rather than simply clicking that button to apply the patch that I carefully constructed for them, they tell an AI agent to write the exact same code.
In case you are wondering, as I am, why your timeline is filled with memes about geese right now, this appears to be why.
Content I've seen about Scottish people in the US for the World Cup seems to indicate that this a conservative estimate.
@jacques@mastodon.chester.id.au That's not far from what I'm dealing with. It's SQL view, transformed into a CTE (literally, the view definition is queried and then prepended into a WITH clause) so Postgres will materialize it at query time.
