@BashStKid@mastodon.online @quixoticgeek@social.v.st There is a large aging windfarm near me that has been running for more than 20 years and it gonna be recharged with new turbines. It will be half the amount of larger modern turbines than the current old ones. The capacity will double to a gigawatt. The recharge will take just under 10 years and cost £1.5 billion. Wind is a mature established technology that actually delivered. Nuclear in principle is fine but in the real world it is never lives up to the promises.

Off to vote in the Scottish Parliament elections.
For the uninitiated you can vote at age 16 and over, you get two votes.
One vote is a first past the post constituency vote for a candidate and the second is for a Party (or independent candidate) from a regional list.
Although not strictly PR, the system is designed give a more proportion outcome.
You also don't have to be "Scottish" to vote, just normally resident in Scotland and forfil the criterion that allows you to register to vote here.

I can log into my bank on my phone via the web browser if I really need to, which is rarely. I do have some app that are my go to's. VLC as my media player. Fossify Notes. Tune in radio and BBC sounds for radio etc.

@MikeDunnAuthor@kolektiva.social This is the very reason that the relatively few "self made" "successful" people are often boosted as the norm and an achievable status by the Elite. They want to obscure how THEY got there by using the occasional "I grew up poor" successful person as cover for how they had all the privilege and it would be more difficult to be a fuck up in their world than a "success".

@phl@mastodon.social This system is only for the Scottish Parliament. The old first past the post system is used in UK National elections to the House Of Commons and you have to be 18 to vote and photo ID to vote in this election was introduce a few years so. So in Scotland you can vote at 16+ without photo ID for the Scottish Parliament and Local council BUT you need to 18+ and have photo ID to vote in the Westminster elections. Norther Ireland & Wales have different systems for their devolved Institutions

On a really bright point Tory+Reform have 2 less seats than in the previous Parliament. I know that's stat is a bit of Sleight of hand on my part as ReformUK Ltd didn't exist in the last Parliament. But it still means there was a tiny left shift in the balance of the Scottish Parliament.

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net Firstglagow (buses) did a major app update about 7 months ago and it caused a bit of chaos. Luckily the old app ran okay for a while afterwards. I immediately had problems and told my sister not to update until it was fixed. They actually changed the criterion for passwords so it meant a lot of the original passwords used on folks accounts were no longer valid. (1/2)

I see Reform UK, the supposedly insurgent party in UK politics has failed badly in another major election.

Labour were within a few percentage points of winning the Manchester Mayorality election outright on 1st choice votes (50% required) but easily won when 2nd choice votes were counted.

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net (2/2) After the update you had to log into the app to recover any active tickets you had but the app told you to create an account with a new password when you tried to log in even if you had an existing account. If you "created" an account using an email address on a previously existing account it then migrated any tickets you had associated with that email address to 'new' account. However it took a while for them to tell people this was the case.

That is fair as my sister born in Scotland but living in England for 20 years does not get a Scot Parl vote as the powers it has do not affect her in England. Whereas a person born in England/Wales/NI now living in Scotland is affected by the Scot Parl so they get a vote.

It's been over a year a not a brick has been laid. All of a sudden the petrol station is shut to be extended and a Greggs added to it
