I fear we have already lost

I tend to think we already have. What's needed is an independent browser not based on Gecko, Blink, or WebKit. I was initially excited about Ladybird, but they turned out to have weird right-wing leanings. So I'm just back to despair (which would be a fun name for a new browser engine...)

@letoams@defcon.social Same. I don't think people know what the word "fascist" means any more and just use it to mean "activists whose politics I don't like." People trolling a major software project for adding a DOB field in the current political climate aren't fascists or Nazis. And comparing the systemd DOB entry to the GECOS field is disingenuous trolling itself. I get rage posting when you're pissed off, but if these are genuine thoughts then @rfc1036@hostux.social isn't someone to take seriously.

They're thinking about how much money they can extract quarter over quarter. That's it. If the ladder crumbles and the earth burns, they don't care. They really, really don't.

I have a couple of keyboards installed from F-Droid, but I've never switched because I've been using SwiftKey literally the entire time I've had "smart" phones (starting with a Galaxy S3 back in 2012). This isn't just one more app I'll have to find a replacement for, it's been a major part of how I've experienced the mobile platform this entire time. I cannot wait for the @jolla J2 to ship. I'm so fed up with the enshittification of everything.

@diazona There's a lot of AI slop throughout everything. It's a real exploit, of course, but everything surrounding it and their incredibly hamfisted disclosure really give me the vibe of some guys who threw an LLM with a fuzzer at the kernel and had the LLM write it all up. I assume we'll be seeing a lot more of this type of disclosure slop. :(

@randahl@mastodon.social Good, and I hope others follow their example. People need to realize that actions have real long-term consequences. So many people think that if we (I'm an American) elect a Democrat in the next election (assuming there is one), things will "go back to normal." What's been happening is not normal and it would be very unwise for other countries to rely on the stability of the US when we've demonstrated such a willingness to blow everything up.

However their entire corporate ethos is to wall users in (both in software and hardware) and force new hardware purchases over simple repairs. I get the love for the early days with Woz, but those are long, long gone.
