Upgrading Antix on the dual PIII machine. Why? Idk. (Though it is curious how long it takes and memory usage etc) Also I need to swap the bios battery. Hopefully that didn’t leak. #RetroComputing #Antix

that moment when a bunny hits warp speed #bnuy

for those feelin feral / are therians:

Nice little $10 thrifting haul today. Been needing CD-Rs for old Linux stuff to tide me over until the picoIDE is out. Wanted a cheap old Apple keyboard for those times you need a USB hub and thin keyboard for basic troubleshooting/ travel shit. Stunned to find an official Apple power adapter extension cable there too. Yoink. And longer component cables bc needed it for possible project / existing cables are very short. #Thrifting

Anyone have a spare 1GbE PCI NIC around? (Not PCI-X or PCIe). Can swap another piece of tech junk with ya.. #Wisconsin Edit: I guess while we’re at it..also: -IDE hard drive of any size (I used to have a bunch but sold them long ago / only have a bunch of SATA ones around now)

move over, wake n bake. Time for: RISE AND FEED THE MACHINE

@plzupgrademe@fedi.txw.ca I wouldn’t say rare. 1GbE has been around a LONG time. Especially on the enterprise/ business side. $10 shipped on eBay is criminal tho for a thing that should be $0-5. Shipping is what’s killing it really. But just solved this locally it’s sounding like!

Candid photography is the antithesis of that posed ducklip selfie shit everyone loves these days. Real, genuine, fun expressions and actions vs a weakest facade just trying to sell one(‘s fake) self. And only one is allowed anymore these days. And it’s not the good one. Sigh.

@mwichary@mastodon.online Ivory does! (on apple platforms, for masto)

@moses_izumi@fe.disroot.org oh yeah, no encryption here!! a Debian/Antix upgrade with 1200 updates took like 1-2hrs on here. boot-up time is like 30-45s. I haven’t tried 3D gaming.. this thing only has a Matrox G200 in it.. (w/o the ram expansion). I’m *trying* to get a newer PCI card working in here, but it seems like Antix v26 needs SSE2 now?? or there’s some issue with this video driver w/newer card. May need to try the Matrox card again.

@plzupgrademe@fedi.txw.ca I remember Dell GX260s having gigabit and being super frustrated by consumer PCs near a decade later somehow having 100Mbit slipped into them still.

@terrance_shaw@mastodon.world wow that’s dark. How did that make it that far / who thought any of that was a good idea?

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net yes all blanks. Man back in the day they were giving spindles twice as tall AWAY near the end of those days. At least thrift shops are handy for finding some cheap ones still.

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net I wish I kept my DVDs with old personal backups :( I have quite a bit of old stuff but not everything from my past.

@vantablack@cyberpunk.lol these crooks sent me this email today too.

ever get a premonition that the next day is gonna be real bad? (for oneself)

@allpurposemat@mastodon.gamedev.place @halcy@icosahedron.website

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net olddd (almost 100yo) painting too

@ari@fedi.arimelody.space @hexaitos@social.jnpw.net this trick also works if you have multiple rooms/floors and too lazy to grab other laptop.. don’t ask me how I know.

@servo@floss.social two years from 0% to 100%. Stunning work!

@schrotthaufen@mastodon.social @alice@lgbtqia.space I’ve seen them fling across our yard in a second too… Just bunny physics

@enigmatico@mk.absturztau.be @gothpanda@pandapla.net the options should be “Okay” and “Maybe later”

What is this thing?

@catsalad@discuss.systems @leberschnitzel@existiert.ch That artist is Rozalid.

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange wooo, my #1 and 2 choices line up same w/poll results rn xD

@tilton@fursuits.online I feel like you could charge a lot more for these. Boostin

@Erpel@hai.z0ne.social @emilvolk@tiggi.es I learned the trick at doner shops it to just answer every question with “alles”. Works out pretty well.

@maddy@thegayagenda.fans @Equinox@squawk.social just wait until they shut that all down in 5-10-15 years.

@mike@social.chinwag.org @kaibojens@gruene.social @MastodonEngineering@mastodon.social you may want to follow @mastodon_releases@mastodon.social as well. They had links to all the latest releases and they were accessible. https://mastodon.social/@mastodon_releases/116992330137401892

@grimmy@mastodon.social @aqeeliz@floss.social @pidgin@fosstodon.org I don't think they realize how much extra work this generates for you, and how unhelpful it actually is. They can't be assed to make an account but want to contribute in some way.. I'm just going to assume hanlon’s razor on this one. If they knew/realized this however, perhaps they would make an account and contribute helpfully.. (wouldn't hold my breath though, but it may be worth it to inform vs just tossing the response in the trash or obv manually doing the work)

@kootenay@fursuits.online @Equinox@squawk.social seriously. how no magpie or hoodie or jackdaw etc

What do y'all like to see in #Introduction posts? What's good to include? Skip? This sort of ice-breaker "who/what am I/etc" question is always kinda nerve-wracking xD I just came to the realization I never actually wrote an intro post so I wanted to correct that. Thanks all for any tips/tricks.

@justdaveisfine@mastodon.gamedev.place @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place needs to be merged with

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @chirpbirb@meow.social I’ve not had this issue with proxmox and ZFS. (It maxes out the ram yes but as containers and VMs use more ram.. it’s freed up without issue?) There’s some kernel parameter that controls how Linux frees up memory and handles this. I need to dig up what that was called.

@chirpbirb@meow.social found it! what does sysctl vm.overcommit_memory return? Honestly, I've had zero issues with it set to 0. I think it being set to 2 is kinda dangerous for a hypervisor, but others suggest having it set that way. https://ariadne.space/2025/12/16/vmovercommitmemory-is-always-the-right.html @anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz

@Mara@hachyderm.io @wezm@mastodon.decentralised.social the egg shell when burning must’ve stunk

@hexaitos@social.jnpw.net wow you sound so good / official!

@aelyrolia@social.jnpw.net do it.

@AmethystLight@critters.gay always birds from me. If there’s any energy left.

@airikr@mst-gts.airikr.me @PurpleJillybeans@kind.social configuring relays is only done by the Masto owner role (which the main admin would have). the Relay settings page can't even be granted to other users/roles (though some other admin settings can be made available) Does GTS allow any user to setup relays or does it require admin too? Relays can generate (and receive) a LOT of traffic so I can't imagine non-admins being given this ability.

@xoagray@tiggi.es @tilton@fursuits.online window?

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @creideiki@akkoma.xn--pikabl-0xa.se I thought trillions were being spent on AI bubble. How does 93B = 1/3? The fraction should be smaller?

@mwichary@mastodon.online it worked the same way under Tweetbot back in those days, happy they’ve maintained it!

@mwl@io.mwl.io @ariadne@social.treehouse.systems closed source software is what.. Frankenstein?

@GoteerTxuria@derg.social @moh_kohn@mastodon.scot works fine on Waterfox on my macOS anyways. Also, great read!
