person who dabbled in color theory (like the science parts) a while ago:
mmm, there is no objective white color. white on screens i think is supposed to be around 6500k (kelvin), by which i mean d65 which is pretty close but not quite i think, i suggest a bulb with a color temperature setting??
sound volume perception is logarithmic, and i think light perception is too, especially for room lights, but i think people just use a linear scale which is not!! correct. i think there should be separate brightness and off buttons, because on a logarithmic scale you can't really go to zero, that's negative infinity
if it is linear (bad!!), most brightnesses will pretty much look the same, except for when it's really low, in which case it will rapidly darken
this is the same problem gamma correction tries to solve
as for color temperature scales, mireds is mostly perceptually uniform
