@eniko The only "completely wrong" takes like this I will let pass are those that are obvious reframings a person needed because they have some mental block that can't accept themselves as an artist. Like Adam Savage posted a video recently discrediting his own artistry by choosing a more mechanical way of describing artistry. 🤔 I don't like it, but whether he's aware of it or not, he just chose a different way of wording it. His take "could" benefit people with so much self doubt that it's inconceivable that they are artists. But also I wish folks could let go of their shitty preconceptions and be free. *cough* I wonder why I'm so adamant about that... 🏳️‍⚧️

Small weight-loss victory today: I'm finally down 20 lbs, AND I finally broke 250 lbs (weighed-in at 248.9). 🎉

To be honest I haven't even done anything this past week. No exercise, nothing. The first 10-15 lbs came off easy. These last 5 lbs took maybe a month, in part thanks to special occasions (birthdays, anniversary), and friends visiting town. Heck, I even ate Wendy's yesterday, yet I'm still down. So yay. 🎉

I've decided to celebrate this momentous occasion by indulging in a very peculiar snack: a slice of Maple Lodge chicken bologna with a squirt of yellow mustard... 🤔

Nothing says "fine dining" like "mechanically separated chicken". 😅

I don't think anyone who knows me has ever really considered me "normal", but because I don't "rock the boat" I don't think they consider me "abnormal" either. Just a "normal weirdo". As I continue transitioning that opinion will change, but in hindsight I don't think being completely invisible benefits any of my social groups (friends or family). Philosophy Tube's radical "oh BTW I'm a hot girl now" is a lot to take in. But being unafraid to express "nah, I think masculine tropes are stupid" in cis groups could be good for them. 🤷

I don't pass as fem, but seeing my shaven face in the mirror isn't bothering me as much as it once did. 🤔

I'm not sure if this is me letting go of some amount of my dysphoria, or if my face is clocking more androgynous. 🤔

I mean there are plenty of other cues that break the allusion, but that's transition in a nutshell, a series of small victories. ☺️

Some things others shared:

- site should be called "chasr"
- supposedly UK based, but it got assigned to a US PDS. 🤔
- apparently requires photo-ID to sign up.......riiight

Okay, after some more digging, it seems the "$6000 DMA" was a very specific DMA card (Heino2) that performs a "man in the middle" attack, piggybacking its I/O alongside your real SATA hard drive to bypass IOMMU restrictions. It was supposed to be "even more impossible to stop". That's what riot was bragging about, that they nerfed "the impossible" DMA card roughly a month after it came out. I don't know if they made a new firmware that bypasses whatever Riot figured out, but it's fascinating to read about. 😋 I was hoping the price of these cards meant they featured a monstrous FPGA on board, but I don't yet know what's used (they apparently sanded off the identification and covered the FPGA in goop). My hope was that these cards might become doorstops to gamers, potentially making a powerful FPGA available to tinkerers for a steal. 🤷

I haven't confirmed this, but in trying to understand how these DMA game cheating FPGA cards work, I found it suggested that they pretend to be SATA storage devices or network adapters, and sneak access to the main memory that way. Anti-cheat systems seem to combat this by enforcing strict IOMMU policies (i.e. who can read/write what), and if a DMA card is found, flashing their own firmware to the card and "soft bricking" the PC it's plugged into. 😳 Dayum. 😳 So haha wow, DMA cheat firmware devs need to now security harden their hardware and software to stop anti-cheat software from bricking them. 🤣 This article claims the cheat hardware costs $6k!? I was going to rant about how thanks to AI and the RAM shortage, the most interesting tech to me lately seems to be microcontrollers and FPGAs. 🤷 I had just stumbled across the Tang Mega, a 138K LU board based on the Gowin Chinese FPGAs. I thought it was neat to see a readily available board with comparable capabilities to the DE10 Nano (AKA the guts of the popular MiSTer FPGA multi-console gaming devices). Neat! I have some of the smaller Tang FPGA boards with 4k and 20k LUs, but I had no idea they offered 60k and 130k options. OF COURSE I then find a "roadmap" suggesting these came out in 2023/2024??!? 😳 Unfortunately the pricing of the larger FPGA modules is competitive with what I remember some Intel (Altera) and AMD (Xylinx) boards costing... Though I haven't looked into that in quite some time. I greatly prefer Chinese products when they greatly undercut the costs (see Allwinner vs Qualcomm). Ah well. 🤷

@what And I've never had one since. I would have been 9-12 at the time, and I'm fairly certain I had my eyes closed any time I moved from place to place. Could have been interpreted as unusually high jumping or short range teleportation, but my memory thinks flying because of the stupid hand flapping gesture I associate with it. Gosh, I'm pretty sure I remember it more for the embarrassment than it being positive. 😅 I get what you mean though. I *don't* feel a strong desire to fly because I had a stupid feeling dream that left me underwhelmed with what I felt was a flying dream. 😅 I wouldn't say no to X-Men style flying powers (or the gender button) if it came with no strings attached. 🥲

Anyway, this Tang FPGA card is a proper dev kit for an exotic FPGA (Gowin). They have nothing to do with gaming "DMA" cheating cards. The "DMA" cards seem to feature Xylinx (AMD) FPGAs. They come in 35T, 75T, and 100T variations, each corresponding with a different Xylinx Artix FPGA with roughly the same number of LUs (35k, 75k, and 100k). I'm not sure how useful these cards would be for other uses, but I did find a 75T model for C$120 (before AliExpress coupon shenanigans). 😋 Also I think it's funny how they seem to be going for a "stealth" aesthetic. 🤣

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net Oh they still are decentralized, but most users and the application/client aren't, so it seems moot. It's worth remembering that Mastodon hit a per instance user limits early on, which led to a similar criticism that lasted years. Given enough time, today's network that doesn't solely rely on the official instance emerged. It's also easy to forget that running a Mastodon instance can be EXPENSIVE! The one I'm on with maybe a few hundred active users costs $700/mo. IMO this should be way less, but I don't know if the Mastodon org can or has the right incentives to actually fix it. There are HUGE benefits in both designs, but other than the outages the incentive for the BlueSky (AtProto) network to further decentralize aren't life-or-death as they were here.
