@benroyce@mastodon.social @peachfront@toot.community Keep in mind that in obliterating blue districts... red districts have to be diluted with blue voters. And the more hard-core the right gets, the more of their own voters get turned off. I have faint, but persistent, hope that at least some of this redistricting will backfire as voters of all types get more angry with the status quo.

@dashrb@mstdn.social I use a PC desktop, so it's a good trick for some to know, but not me particularly. I've started checking to see if turning off Java and reloading the page does the trick. I'd say it does about half the time, but not in this case. But I've discovered that MSN and Yahoo often mirror these sites, and don't complain about adblockers. Yet. Much better than the sus "archive" sites. @dalfen@mstdn.social

@anderslund@expressional.social I guess I'm just feeling like there are no good answers. Any security created by humans can be broken by humans. And we've arrived in this world where one's individual identity is so valuable... and yet, third parties who mishandle that information are slapped on the wrist. Meanwhile, that data has slipped any containment. There is so much more money behind stealing the data than there is in protecting it. We're steadily losing the battle. @Gargron@mastodon.social

I need a hand from #sfba #nature #wildlife people.

I’ve had a bit of churned dirt under my bird feeder. Thought nothing of it. I moved the feeder to a new spot less than a week ago.

This morning, I saw the dirt moving. There is clearly something digging underneath. No sign of a burrow entrance and whatever it is, is staying below ground.

I’m inclined to leave it be but I walk around close by and am concerned it may get defensive. Any ideas?

The top two, regardless of party, go to the general election. And the top two, due to the left's lack of consolidation, may be the two GOP asshats.

@magicalgrrrl@indiepocalypse.social It did explain that. Each data point alone is not important in itself, no more than any single ridge on the tip of your finger. It is the combination of them all into a whole that makes a unique fingerprint, that strips away your anonymity on the internet. Once you become a known entity, your dossier can be fleshed out, bought, and sold. The US government has been buying this information, no warrant required. Anyone could. @Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social

@WizardOfDocs@wandering.shop Self-healing isn't really that rare of an ability in DC/Marvel, even by what little attention I pay them. It's been some time since I've read Thieves' World and I had forgotten many details; the character (Tempus) is considered "effectively immortal". His healing speed depends on how happy his gods are with him at the time. The point, of course, is that torture under such fantasy circumstances could be effectively eternal. @mjd@mathstodon.xyz @wollman@mastodon.social

He was not a happy man by the time he got free. @wollman@mastodon.social In fantasy it's pretty normal to have some sort of limitations. Like, spell reagents, or energy consumption. Triage still needed, actual healing magic rationed.

@deewani Oh, thank you! Of those, I would pick the mole. I don't have a garden, and as a whole my back yard is pretty barren (and, sadly, mostly covered with landscaping cloth). So not likely to be a gopher. If it's a ground squirrel, the burrow entrance would have to be in an adjoining property. Or under the rosemary, maybe. But the dirt under a long-standing bird feeder might be a good buffet for an insectivore.

Of course, as you said, physical possession of the device... which is also true of any credentials. @Gargron@mastodon.social

@ramkay@mastodon.social Not really what I mean, though. An Aadhaar number can be stolen or leaked, and misused, like any other ID credential. What I mean is, for instance, you have to go in person to your bank to scan your irises before they'll talk to you. I thought maybe an app could do it, but I realized I couldn't bet against genAI being able to falsify that.

If you're a #CA #California #voter and not yet decided who to support in the #election for #governor, CalMatters (a nonprofit nonpartisan news site) has an excellent voter quiz.

It leads you through the topics of the day, presents the range of answers, and shows you which candidate(s) align with each answer.
