In my opinion, the MOST important thing you can do for your #privacy is get over your aprehension of being "that weirdo" or being "difficult". Not having "the app" is "abnormal". Refusing to use a platform because of a privacy hazard is "being diffiicult". Avoiding facial or plate recognition is "paranoid". The first thing you need to do is get the fuck over that. Be difficult, be a weirdo, be abnormal. What's actually fucking weird is being ok with constantly being tracked and data harvested!

When people begin a sentance with "If you instal our app...", I cut them off. "Fuck your app!". Now I just need to break the "Do you have a phone number with us?" habit. The meager price saving isn't worth it

The most REQUIRED skill in saving money by knowing how to do something yourself is knowing when a job is outside your skill. I can replace supply lines on a faucet. I can replace a faucet with a new one that fits the same holes. I cannot replace your water heater, nor will I try. I can replace a loose or cracked outlet. I can replace a switch. I cannot rewire your breaker box, nor will I try.

Remember: From time to time, doing absolutely nothing is, in itself, a worthwhile and healthy activity. Staying sedintary all the time isn't the best for you (I'm guilty of this), but neither is never taking some time to just exist. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is be "useless" fo a bit, "serve no purpose" for a bit, consume nothing, and just... be. I, myself, had forgotten this.

Jesus was alledgedly born in Bethlehem, Israel. He is inelligble for the office of President of the United States, per the United States Constitution, Article two, Section 1.

High on my list of things that make me anxious is... Working in GUI, clicking commands, or dragging things.... Accidentally landing in the wrong place, something happens but goes away too fast to see it, and I'm left having absolutely no idea what just accidentally happened to my computer or my files. Multiply this by a thousand if I'm working with private files I would never want sent to other people.

I got tired of emailing a company every day insisting they respond, so I set up a Home Assistant automation to do it.
lol.
I'll just leave that automation on till they respond. I used a few {{["One way to say it", "Another way to say it.", "another wording!"] | random}} to change it up, used a time trigger, ticked off business days, and voilà.

What an interesting jouney computers have been for me. "IBM Compatible? But I only know Apple." - circa '93. But I was off to the races in DOS in a couple hours. "But I need Windows!" - circa '00. Not sure why I felt that way. "LOL, I'd rather go back to paper than use something other than Linux" - Recently "Hmm... I'm willng to poke around BSD" - present day. Haven't actually attempted BSD yet, but it's on my list

It's too bad Google is so damn evil. There's LOADS of integrations in #HomeAssistant for their services.
I want to be against it but... anything to bring average people in to foss is likely a good thing. They can figure out they need to abandon Google after they see foss software isn't always crap.

Wait... this entire time, I could put pngs in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/ and they'll appear in "Applications" when picking an icon?!?!
FFS! Every so often, I learn something in #Linux that makes me feel like I don't know a fucking thing about Linux.

Anyway... I want the LGBTQ+ version of the LibreWolf icon, but unfortunately, the wolf and circle being white is too low contrast to work well at 48x48.
@librewolf@chaos.social - Any possibility you could give higher contrast version?

I'm noticing more and more web pages aren't working in @librewolf@chaos.social. I don't think for a second this is something wrong with #LibreWolf. I'm certain it's that more and more web sites aren't working with tracking bullshit blocked. IE - The privacy thing isn't broken, it's just working exactly as it's supposed to. The web is broken.

One way I stay productive is to have a task I'm just unable to get done and end up procrastinating with other helpful tasks.
Previous resident here did some dumb crap with the windows in a bit of "DI-Why the fuck would he do that?!". So I was uncovering my window, and cleaned it. Then cleaned my housemate's study window. Then spent however long scraping paint off her bedroom window cause I figure she'd enjoy that.
My room... still a pile of disorganized stuff.

Basically, these were often found at dollar stores. The cartoons were ancient then, even more ancient now - likely old enough they were pub dom even back when I first got them (hence why an hour worth of cartoon was profitable at a $1 price).

@SpaceLifeForm@infosec.exchange I used to be a Google fan. I had Gmail, I had Google Home, I had a stock Google Pixel on Google Fi, and even a Google watch. I used Google Pay. My photos, calendar, everything was on Google. When I saw them reading my email, I imediately hunted for new email, learned how to use NextCloud, and threw all my Gooogle home devices in a box in the crawlspace. My Google account remains as simply access to YouTube content.

@SpaceLifeForm@infosec.exchange The hardest part of this process was getting my photos OUT of Google, and remains incomplete to this day. (I have them all, but have been unsuccessful in getting them all removed from Google). The most labor intensive part was going through my entire password list in Chrome to change each and every one (and close unneeded accounts) and store them in BitWarden. (I have since migrated to KeepPass)

@SpaceLifeForm@infosec.exchange Btw, if anyone needs an email provier that isn't Gmail or whatever the fuck Microsoft is calling their BS email these days, I recommend @runbox@mastodon.social. Inexpensive, very few outtages, and if I'm not mistaken, all their servers are outside the US - Which is a major perk with how things in the US are going right now. Plus, they're customer service is acually decent. It's also real email. Has webmail, but you can easily use any client progam.

I think that may have been the most abrupt and thorough I've ever bailed on a brand in my life. I deGoogled as fast as I could possibly do it, to the point some data was lost in the process.
