@Daojoan@mastodon.social I believe the plan is to throw young people under the bus and sell your place to a large property manager or some other rent seeker.

@stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social Agreed. It needs to be more Mac like but as that will probably never happen, they need to make developers feel more enthusiastic about supporting it.
Otherwise they’re going to let it die over not wanting to give an inch on the App Store stuff which would be unfortunate.

@atpfm@mastodon.social I agree with @marcoarment@mastodon.social on the problem with some cyclists (tbh usually e-bikes) & the separate space for everyone is the best way forward especially in a country that can have such wide streets.
I can't remember the last time I drove, so walking & cycling is my only modes of transport. Both walkers & cyclists can be in the wrong space but when you're the one with the higher speed, you do need to be mindful of headphone users & reaction times. Slowing down for a couple seconds is fine.

@warandpeas@mastodon.social That's a tricky one. 9 times out of 10, at least on Mastodon, the single image is fine. Nothing in Ivory or the mastodon website stops me from zooming if I need to.
Twitter (at least when I used it) and BlueSky (since it seems to be built on the same broken tech) seems to fit you on a phone if you try to zoom in on an image.
That is the main reason I've always hated people posting long vertical images or text images on old twitter. They break how the browser should work.

@JugglingWithEggs It is by no means just her but imo the problem with all these cabinet positions is you don’t have to have an ounce of experience in their field. People don’t need to be the greatest programmer or anything like that to hold the position but if you don’t understand it or have any interest in anything but the power and title then can you ever excel at the position?

@Migueldeicaza LinkedIn is broken on a fundamental and barely useful as a product, imo.
I’m genuinely surprised there doesn’t seem to be an alternative that isn’t some pre-LinkedIn that’s just outdated and feels slightly scammy.
A decent job listing site doesn’t feel like it should be that hard to do and if you’re not trying to be a billion dollar company then it should be a decent way to make money.
Even with the issues of moderation, just don’t try making it a social media site.

@a@pdx.social @tg@indieweb.social @benbrown@masto.hackers.town I have thought about that but it did feel like a lot of accounts do not update that frequently. More so if they're not on happynetbox.
Though it's kind of there via the widget which will refresh as well as letting you manually refresh so maybe the app should behave the same way. Were you think it should notify you of changes?
I'm doing some minor fixes to it at the moment so maybe I'll look that. I suspect the people that use the weather accounts would appreciate it.

@campuscodi It is a shame to see it go and not even in a good way. askjeeves.com still works but seems to be broken.
I have to admit I was more into Alta vista and dogpile. I'm kind of surprised dog pile is still around. It might be the only search engine around mostly in its original form.
I know Yahoo still does search but it's not in its original directory form or even a main part of their business if I had to guess.

@carnage4life@mas.to for my area at least it feels like LinkedIn has become useless. It’s not the go to place for listing jobs and whether it’s the cause or a side effect of that, you just end up fir a lot of promoted jobs outside of your area because they never want results to minimal or empty.
The broken experience of the website probably doesn’t help any of this. I’m sure the app has a better experience but it’s a website, it shouldn’t require an app.

@gingerbeardman I believe I got my first one in 1998. It was part of a home stereo setup. I used it for recording music and things like late night with Conan O’Brien skits off the tv then transferred them to my computer. I didn’t get a portable one until about 2002. That should still be working too. 🤞

@atpfm@mastodon.social An open ai HomePod knock-off or some kegel egg shaped device isn't going to convert people off smart phones.
The smart thing would have been to start with a new smartphone but that's hard work that they don't want to do it. Most companies don't want to do it.
That's the true advantage Apple has. That's why people are talking about the Neo eating Windows' lunch rather than copilot PCs eating macOS' lunch.

@atpfm@mastodon.social I largely agree with everyone on Tim Apple but imo tech people over rank AI.
MS is apologizing for Windows & claiming to reduce copilot stuff (it's not really iirc). The darling of AI is already becoming passé. Ex: https://mastodon.social/@carnage4life@mas.to/116443578602305566
I know it makes for something exciting to talk about but short of an another innovation, I don't see LLMs on their own being anything special. Apple has the users and their data. An LLM that competently works with the data. Without the data it's a toy.

@carnage4life@mas.to You used to be able to be bale to have the concern about the Chinese government's stance on human rights but Trump is going out of his way to out do them. Plus they have more affordable healthcare and decent public transportation which will probably only get better as they're looking forward while the US keeps looking backwards.

@Edent Licensing the code as MIT doesn't even give an opportunity for a company's enhancements being pulled back into the NHS.
I think it's attractive to devs but I'd much prefer a focus on a more efficient, centralised system that means I don't have multiple logins for one GP let alone if move and likely being thrown into different systems,
Yes, this is more of a political issue than a technical one. The risk of having to manage AI PRs as an example is something I'd want to avoid too.

@helge@mastodon.social 236 including the deprecated ones if the documentation is showing me all of them.
In some ways I think the worst problem is it was released with very few features while also it feeling like they were deciding how it should work.
Now you do often find these long lists of functions all around the documentation but many of them can be deprecated so space isn't even wasted on meaningful information.

@tewha@appdot.net I did a flow / wrapping layout for tag lists, I think I should be using it still in one area but since adding folders to my app and my phone screen getting bigger, I don't think I've noticed it for years.
So, I would say thanks, I should test that still works in iOS 27. 😅
But I agree, it would be nice if I did not have to roll my own for something that feels basic.

@tewha@appdot.net I definitely would see value in it with my bookmarks. especially with styles that show images from the metadata.
Sure, it works fine as a single row but on larger iPads where someone uses the app in a more traditional iPad way they feel too big and the images less than ideal no matter how you lay them out.

@tvaziri I did not have one but a friend / co-worker did. It was amazing especially considering what most PCs looked like.
I did my one and only ‘real’ video editing on it. We filmed English language teaching classes for a company to make training videos. It probably helped to rent proper lighting but I’m still surprised we didn’t screw up the lighting or audio given the absolute lack of experience.

@tewha@appdot.net I would agree on both. I guess I see why they are against a news paper column layout because it potentially doesn't add value on smaller screens but a multiple device code base should be allowed to make the most of each screen size.

@Migueldeicaza @xeno Without seeing it before the war it's hard to say if it is incompetence or planned.
But on Maps on macOS Matat didn't even show up initially for me and North Korea, as an example, is much more bare than Google Maps.
If the other maps go blank sure, but if it's to make people think there's nothing there then leaving it on Google maps & leaving the satellite images makes no sense.
They all rolled over on the gulf of America. I don't see Apple going out on their own on this.

@carnage4life it’ll be interesting to see if it ever provides real value for average people but I think tech people will push through with using AI. I’m not sure we’re that good at seeing the downsides (ex: biz friendly open source)
I suppose one great value for it is that it works better than search these days and there’s no annoying cookie pop-ups like on stack overflow. So as long as the cost isn’t too high I imagine they’ll use it and panic later.

I appreciate they’re not as crass as some other leaders and but they I wish everyone else would try harder rather than just being a bit better than the worst country for pollution.

To give an idea, this was very early swift so I'm not surprised, when I went and looked I ended transitioning to GridItem with the adaptive size.
iirc, this was to stay with more standard layout but iirc it does create a grid rather than wrapping.
