TIL: #forgejo has built-in capabilities for acting as a package manager for a variety of ecosystems... including #composer. That simplifies self-hosting packages!

The best part of being at #LaraconUS is nobody expects to see me here, and many haven't seen me in years and don't recognize the long-haired, grey-bearded hippy behind the Perforce booth. 🤣 It's so much fun to see the shock of recognition - "wait, you mean Zend? Like THE Zend?!? You're MWOP?" Having the best time!

@ocramius@mastodon.social Two steps:

  1. Have more money than you need in bank
  2. Retire

I suspect I'll never pass the first step.

@grmpyprogrammer@yac.grumpy-learning.com @mfrost503@phpc.social @stevegrunwell@phpc.social I'm... not sure what my first concert was. My parents are big music fans, and were in CO my first 5 years, seeing acts at Red Rocks and other venues there. When we moved to MT, they were volunteer announcers at the local community radio station, and we got free tickets all the time. Seeing shows was... just what we did. Not big arena shows, mind - this WAS MT, after all.

@Skoop@phpc.social Oh, I know. But if we could do that, we'd likely have an appetite for addressing the other things as well. I wish we'd collectively place more obstacles in front of extractive "innovation" to get folks to look at the bigger picture, instead of just the new shiny and extracting profit.

Things keeping me sane this travesty of a week:

- Reading. I'm in book 5 of the Rivers of London series
- Journaling
- Drawing
- Comfort rewatch of What We Do in the Shadows

Hoping everybody is finding ways to cope in *flails hands at everything everywhere right now*

Over the long weekend, I wrote up some of my thoughts on AI, as a developer and product manager. tl;dr: they're mixed, but maybe not for the reasons you might expect. https://mwop.net/blog/2026-07-06-musings-on-gen-ai.html #ai #genai, #adhd #autism

Recently ran across a #php oddity I'd not encountered before with `DateTimeImmutable::createFromFormat()`, and blogged about it:

Side benefit of self-hosting: had wireguard already setup, so creating an additional config for use as a vpn was a no-brainer.

Enjoying secure wifi while traveling is a nice win!

@randomgeek@masto.hackers.town Back in the early nineties, a friend of mine and I made mango salsa, and it was that same sort of thing - sweet, fruity, a little citrusy (we used some lime juice) - and then it would hit the back of your throat, and the habaneros kicked in. So you'd have some more, because surely that sweet, fruity flavor will cool it down...

@ocramius@mastodon.social Not necessarily - it can be kind of like a visitor pattern where you pass around only the entity segments you'll operate on or reference. I used it recently when identifying webmentions from a struct containing a microformats hierarchy.

Did some design changes on my website over the weekend. Man, but I love how far HTML5 and modern CSS have brought us since that summer in the mid-90s when I used tables and style tags to create a directory of resources for a university research center, and it looked like crap in every browser. Who am I kidding, all I had was Mosaic and Netscape.

@sean I disable most notifications on my phone, or put them in the "silent" category so they show up in the notification scroll, but not as an alert. Pet peeve is when an app update changes those to "loud" or introduces new notification categories that default to it.

@SwiftOnSecurity@infosec.exchange I had a home lab running for around 5 years, then nothing for around 15 years, and now have one again. Mini servers have made the whole thing a lot more affordable(1), mostly silent, and basically zero extra heat in the room. Having so much fun self-hosting on my own infra again! (1) well, they were until the RAM shortages started impacting EVERYTHING...

@ello@void.ello.tech I switched over to Nextcloud News around... 7, 8 years ago? and used my opml from feedly to seed it. What I've seen since then is that most developer blogs I followed have tapered off or disappeared. The bulk of what comes in day-to-day for me now are from fiction authors, artists, and folks like Rands in Repose (technical leadership). Oh, and webcomics. 😁

I've been using Gnome shell as my desktop manager on Linux for over 10 years. I've consistently been annoyed with status tray icons, as they proliferate and are never in a predictable location. I found the Status Tray extension recently, and it's brilliant! https://github.com/keithvassallomt/status-tray #gnome
