Just witnessed an age verification industry person suggest that age gates might be used for encyclopaedias. These people are unhinged, lol.

"I'll need your Wi-Fi password to put it on the Wi-Fi" *points at conveniently located double Ethernet faceplate directly above the installation location* "Shouldn't be a need for that" (Blank looks) "Still need Wi-Fi." (Folf, having danced this dance many times before) "Ok boss. You got it." (Mental note to connect it to Ethernet myself later)

The beautiful thing about the fediverse is that the @admin@burnout.cafe is more than welcome to run their server however they want to run it. If they want to pretend it's the 1850s and curate a community where there is no - quote: content or communication that can be qualified as essentially sexually oriented or intentionally appealing to prurient interest; then that's absolutely fine. Good luck to them. They have federation controls and moderation tools to enforce their position. If that were quietly in their rules without any further fanfare, I very much doubt whether anybody would have taken umbrage with their position. This petulant @ing admins of other servers with preachy messages is pathetic though. Those admins also have their own freedom and agency on the running of their own servers. Knock it off, really.

imagine having such a low opinion of the people you're presenting to that you literally tell them you're going to invent a new product ("ASI") that produces infinite value somehow. No explanation as to how it'll work, how you're going to make it, just a statement.

@thenexusofprivacy@gotosocial.thenexus.today agreed, it's certainly worded with a "how can we push for even more draconian measures?" tone. I've been saying from the start of this: we need to hammer the point that MPs care about - economy. Ways in which this is hurting the British economy. Holding back movement of information, ideas and curtailing the development of products that can replace the problematic US-owned systems. Get rid of it, and watch innovation flourish. Yes, I know that's a very libertarian anti-regulation talking point, but honestly I think we need to start playing the game a little bit differently if we're going to win this argument. They do not give a shit about privacy. They do not give a shit about freedom of expression. That much is abundantly clear. Let's pull some strings they do care about.

The first album I ever owned was Dirt by Alice in Chains. Mum (reluctantly) bought it on early-days Amazon for me. It might also have been the first thing mum bought online too. The first album I ever listened to was a cassette of Human Racing by Nik Kershaw that I found in my dad’s old room at my grandparents’ home.
