I don't consent to AI medical transcription and, as I suspected, my provider doesn't even use it and wouldn't know where to begin.
However, all the forms come from the affiliated hospital system with the fancy purple and rainbow logo. And it is they who have created this data entry workflow that ensures most everybody will sign off on the use of a whole litany of AI things, including medical transcription, whether they want it or not
This is not consent

The short version is everybody was very nice. They printed out a paper form so I could amend it and sign it and then they scanned it in
The computer system was so actively hostile to this workaround though that none of the allergies and medicines associated with my record carried over, so the medical assistant and I had to enter them all from scratch in the exam room

I was pretty sure everybody in the office would be nice to me or at least humor me and I was still nervous to swim upstream against the patient-medical establishment gradient.
This was a very low stakes followup appointment but if I were at all sick or scared or in a hurry I would have signed that stupid form
They put the AI stuff on the form you sign literally to consent to treatment and make it unskippable

Update: I got another ping about it so I figured I'd call the office (and wait on hold...) just to explain what my hold up is, instead of laying it on them by surprise on Friday. The receptionist I spoke to was very nice and said we could do the intake in person on a tablet which supposedly has more options.
To be continued ...

@chu@climatejustice.social hi. So much this.
I'm 47 without living parents, never had siblings or children. My closest relatives that I actually trust and would call when I "need an adult" are 11 hours away. I live in my childhood home with some of the same neighbors I've lived on this block with since the 80s. Guess who I text my flight itinerary to, who helps me dig my car out of the snow, who checks on me when a strange car is in front of my driveway? :D
I'd be lost without my neighbors ❤️

@dahukanna@mastodon.social okay so THIS is how the manufacturing sector is exposed to AI
I work in a smallish chemical plant and we have almost no visible AI in our day to day. Our customers though? The behemoth multinationals are all on SAP

My Dvorak experience is mostly with the both hands kind, though.

But on top of the most halfassed representation of the arc de triomphe possible. The (actual) arc de triomphe is incredibly detailed in person and I've rarely seen a picture do it justice.
Unless a different arch was meant?

One day mom suggested I should go read with dad in his study. He would read his book and I would read mine. Okay, cool. (Dad and I loved spending special time together)
So I sit on the ottoman and start reading aloud from my little book. And dad is hunched over his book at his desk, looking increasingly tense, but he isn't reading from it. Why isn't he reading?
So finally he bursts out with, "Can't you read to YOURSELF?!"
and I'm like, that's what I was doing

@freakboy3742@cloudisland.nz at work only about half of us were issued email addresses so the main mode of communication from HR to all staff is via the TVs in the break room
They will just copypaste a whole page letter from the president of the company onto a PowerPoint slide and call that communication

You go to put away your laundry after having it hanging for three days and it feels slightly damp to the touch, and it's not logical that it would still be wet at that point, it's just somehow equilibrating with the dampness in the air

I myself have trouble getting through meal kit boxes due to all the food prep, but I still get them because I don't want to draw a blank at dinnertime and end up eating nothing but cereal every night, not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that, but I really like vegetables
I hope you find your helper!!!

@futurebird@sauropods.win the popcorn button might as well be hard wired to the fire alarm system.
Almost every fire alarm when I lived in the dorms was somebody using the popcorn button on the microwave and burning the popcorn.

@moss@kind.social I've asked myself, if I was somehow alive in the 1770s (I wouldn't be; my mom would have died in childbirth and even if I survived I'd have died of an infection) what would I have really thought of the American Revolution. And the answer is, I'd be really exasperated with these whiners who like tea well enough but hate paying their taxes. I would have basically no agency to express my views or do anything about them though
