I make things, I fix things, and quite often break things. A Silicon Valley refugee having lived in the Pacific North West, recently returned to my home, #SantaCruz after too long away.
Three decades in the world of computers and most of it developing the Internet (largely as a Web Thing, but not really).

I am sick of "Prediction Market" as a moniker.
It's Gambling. Gambling is the fucking word.
Gambling that you can manipulate (or create) the outcome.
I don't like gambling (four years of statistics will do that to a person) and I'm not fond of people who gamble (lotto anyone?) ... but that "Market" shit is Criminal.

- BAG O Tortilla Chips
- 4 Apples
- 4 Oranges
- 2 Bananas

- Half Pound of Cheddar
- Quart Bag of Goldfish (what's that little sandwich bag?)
- 2x PB&J (snacks)

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Yeah ... in the 80s I has to wear a fucking tie when I worked on computers at location.
This is why people are lucky I wear clothes at all when doing maintenance on machines (actually it's so I don't catch boy parts when I slam a server back into the rack).

@kajer@infosec.exchange @coolcalmcollected@mastodon.social @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org DO NOT GET ME ST ... too late.
I was responsible for Backend Stuff and a shitload of desktops/laptops at some well known tech publication.
The Laptops had 3Com Etherlink III PCMCIA cards. Users would (say) roll a pencil under-ish the laptop and lift the edge to retrieve it and *CRUNCH*. Dig out pieces w/pliers and replace. I had a standing order w/vendor: Just send two boxes of dongles/month.
3Com Megahertz adapters were instantly fucked.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Eh, I've been wanting another bread machine for loaf type bread for a while now. Suppose I'll have to up the priority on that.
[Mine is at my mother's place in Indy and she won't give it back. I'm not flying there to get it, and try to get that bad boy through TSA in my laptop bag.]

@notanowl@social.brotherpsyche.social @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Yeah ... hailing from Indianapolis in a previous life GenCon confuses the hell out of me.
I mean, they tore out the Hoosier Dome to expand the Convention Center just so GenCon would stay ... buuut if *I* were GenCon I wouldn't want to be there At All. Indy is pretty hostile to anyone not MAGA,

That is what *I* used for *MY* laptop and nobody else was allowed one ... ever ... No ... Fuck That.

Can use SQL to query logs!
Every once in a while (2x/year abouts) I go look up new CLI/TUI stuffs and occasionally I find a gem. This is one of this year's excellent finds. 😁

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social There's a ton of marathons in Greater Seattle and 26.2k Stickers are frequently found on verious autos (SUVs usually) in Redmond.
I was walking through the parking lot on day and found, "13.1k ... I'm not that motivated"
I had to stop and write them a note to tell them that they are awesome human beings.

Now, I Will open my laptop (ThinkPad fun) and solder (say) a USB dongle to the fucking motherboard (because crunching those *could* {has} screwed motherboards on laptops and damnit are those a pain in the ass to replace.
