Botgov often alerts me to some new Trump world fresh hell site, but mostly it’s a constant trickle of local and state digital infrastructure. Like how else would I have learned that Decorah, IA is rolling out municipal fiber? Cool! Yay Decorah!

@TerryHancock@realsocial.life @futurebird@sauropods.win you don’t have to research the popcorn button, because Technology Connections already has! https://youtu.be/Limpr1L8Pss
What's the deal with the popcorn button?

@waldoj@mastodon.social @mathowie@xoxo.zone I’ve been pretty happy with Enterprise, but also we are allowed to do personal rentals through my wife’s work’s corporate account. I have a feeling that the experience isn’t as good when there isn’t a large corporation standing behind you.

@mayintoronto@beige.party what’s wild to me is that this has been happening to me since I was writing book reports in 4th grade in the 90s.

@dantheclamman the tail end of The Death and Life of the Great Lakes does give some hope though! Animals are figuring out and evolving to be able to eat them, and there are some other positive changes too. https://www.daneganauthor.com/the-death-and-life-of-the-great-lakes

@matthewburton@mstdn.social there is actually great work happening on the future of weather.gov, right now, in the open, partnering with 18F: https://github.com/18F/weather.gov previous to that, I don’t know, but I can make some guesses based on over a decade of developing software in the federal space…

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online supply houses are great. So much more selection, and many will even order the single weird fitting you need. (Or lots of EMT, they want to sell you that too). I’m certain that you know this, but some folks that follow you might not: Johnny’s selected seeds is a great source for tools and weird fittings to make small scale farming stuff out of EMT. They also have great spreadsheets that will generate a parts list you can take to the supply house to make a hoop house or whatever.

@matthewburton@mstdn.social nah, ancient websites are pretty common in this space (weather and water) where I used to be (at USGS). Because health and safety are involved, people are EXTREMELY risk averse, and as such it’s always safer (in the short term) to just keep the old thing, even if the old thing doesn’t actually work for most people.

@dansinker@omfg.town could be part of a manufacturer test fleet, they are allowed to import small numbers of cars. Ford’s CEO drove a Chinese EV for over a year (and might still be, I’m not sure).
