So the AI business “model” is:

  1. NOT HIRING 📉 juniors to create human candidates for the specialists & experts with work experience.
  2. BURNING OUT ☢️ mid-level engineers, hardware (prices rising), infrastructure consumed unsustainably (water & electricity) to make everyone “addicted” to AI-LLM word & sentence calculator.
  3. PUSHING OUT 📉 experienced senior-level engineers who advise & set tech strategy for “the business”.

This is the “Kodak” & “Boeing” business downfall case studies combined.

Having morning coffee and wondering why this consequence to “pillaging the open web” is a revelation to anyone who comprehends human fairness - https://mastodon.social/@404mediaco/117306438765477969

A Microsoft executive called “an astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions,” and the “largest theft of labor in human history.” An internal Microsoft document said generative AI products have created a “doom loop” that is killing “the entire web.” https://www.404media.co/doom-loop-openai-and-microsoft-admits-llms-are-destroying-the-web-and-built-on-theft/“

“Courage is knowing it might hurt & doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same & that’s why is hard.” -https://mas.to/@skeletor/116818454299783370 Revised: Courage is knowing it might hurt (from prior experience/knowledge) & doing it anyway. Stupidity is “believing it hurts other people but NOT them” & doing it anyway. Life is hard for everyone, especially those that don’t accept that “earth physics” applies to them and flabbergasted by “earth physics” surprises.

@scottjenson@social.coop Opinion: Agents/MCP servers are glorified APIs/scripts with a linguistic, semantic layer glued on top. Otherwise, for intelligent technology, why do the humans, need to write and provide “skills”? This is like going to a paid orchestral performance and the audience is providing “skills” for orchestra members to play their instruments.

@scottjenson@social.coop I’ve taken a “local-first” approach to explore LLM models using ollama. Main difference to frontier & other models is application interface “glue & API” code that takes care of smoothing interactions, managing “so called memory/context window”, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline, vector databases grounding in recent factual data, etc. For a technology touted as “intelligent”, it requires a huge amount of “tech assistance” to function semi-decently for a human to operate.🤷🏾‍♀️

@FlipperPA@fosstodon.org ultimately, these narratives are about consequences of balancing short-, mid- & long-term decisions.

The Boeing “set of short-term avarice decisions” was decades in the making & only “grabbed attention” when planes & their components started falling out the sky with paying passengers onboard. Intel & Kodak also avarice-driven. “Avarice” is not a business purpose.

With AI-LLM consequences, do we wait until “humans” are literally falling out of:

  1. the sky
  2. their minds
  3. employment

@RuthMalan@mastodon.social a unicellular, microscopic amoeba is “cognitively conscious” & it:

  • interacts with it’s surrounding environment
  • has multiple inputs (sensory) & feedback loops
  • responds to other members of it’s environment
  • most importantly, it evolves & grows, not by pillaging (other people’s work, shared + limited environmental resources or gainful human employment)

LLMs use statistical computation to predict the next likely word, which is not autonomy, intention or cognitive consciousness.🤦🏾‍♀️

Most mammals need weeks if not months of “incubation” and exist for years but for our creative acts, they get no incubation, are factory produced for one variation only and must be delivered within 20 minutes.
