If some oik is being a sexist twat, call them on it. Standing there and going 'Mate. Really? Is it 1975 or what?' is good actually. Someone gets talked over in a meeting? 'Mate, I don't think (blah) had finished?' Keep doing that. Keep doing the work. Do not expect cookies. Do expect a significantly more pleasant workplace.

Raymond Chandler's advice to writers included 'When in doubt, send a man through the door with a gun' (or v. similar)

I have had cause to use it three times in the WIP. Although:

- transphobic autonomous armour
- ex-g/f joyriding a mecha
- tooled-up space vehicle

... And each time the story has got weirder and more fun.

(Although new SSRI hasn't helped)

@raymaccarthy @Christiee @Garwboy Mm. No. Reading something out loud fixes So Many thinko bugs it's untrue. Also unless you're writing some deeply wonky SF, there'll be people having conversations with other people, and if those don't sound natural the reader's going to fall out of the story.

I don't fault people (much) for this, but it does make me wonder at the tottering edifices of fail we've propped up with sticks and yaml to make... Something 'better'. Like K15s needs the entirety of the cncf et al to make the experience something less awful than a power noise all dayer in the function room of a flat roofed pub. Why isn't that a warning that the entire premise of the thing is flawed? They appear to have automated the soul crushing machine, but for money.
