My neighbour handed me a forgotten ebay package - A rare 1960's booklet published by a US church detailing how computers will bring about the end of the world.
I thought it would be nonsense, but if you swap Europe for the US they're not totally wrong.
I have never, ever seen the EMF team this energised so soon after the event. People are already seriously planning 2028.
Slightly terrified. Mostly in awe. #emfcamp
Clearly someone didn't take me seriously when I said "If you leave a tent behind I will find you" and decided to up the stakes by *also* leaving a giant pile of crap.
The game is afoot. They will regret this.
Suddenly realised we *somehow* managed to build and staff a tiny electronic music jam club *and* a planetarium *and* turned the planetarium into an arts venue with a full lineup of custom content ...in the two weeks before the event opened.
And they were SO GOOD.
Sometimes there isn't enough time for you to do things. But there is enough time to recruit amazing people who make it their own and do an even better job. #emfcamp
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social It's tiny but I love how far it's spread - The encoding of Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics in last.fm's robots.txt. I was astonished to find that people have copied it all over the internet, even on massive websites.
Scroll right to the bottom: https://www.last.fm/robots.txt
I struggle to imagine any genuine use of this.
Worse than that, I expected it to do something potentially useful like editing the 3D model, but all it does is throw the rendered earth image at their image generator. It's barely more than a shortcut.
I got back from the site at 9pm last night.
I am hacking on the EMF scheduler, adding features for 2028.
What is going on. This has never happened before.
One of the EMF team leads just dialled into a meeting from a hospital bed after falling off a five story building trying to install a mesh network antenna. Unbelievable dedication to the cause.
This was going to be a whole series of posters around the site but I designed them 7 months ago and then completely forgot about it until four days before EMF - the only way to get stickers in time was to order a hilarious amount.
Still extremely pleased with the sinister FIA logo. It will return.
One of my communities has a standard practise where members request copies of any x-ray/MRI/CAT scans they have. So we can attempt to assemble one full human from all our scans combined.
It's only just occurred to me how weird this is.
Renewed my broadband contract and got upgraded to a 2.5gb connection for an extra £1 a month.
Send suggestions on how I can possibly try to saturate that connection legally.
Sat working alone in EMF HQ and smashed play on my keyboard.
Apple Music opens, an app I never use, and it played seemingly the only thing in my music library - A recording of the Lincolnshire Poacher numbers station.
Perfect.
@doop@social.earth.li@pikesley@mastodon.me.uk I know you know this, but for anyone else reading the thread: This blurring is extremely, extremely intentional - and is why none of the orga are paid. It's critical to have a level field where everyone feels they can engage and contribute rather than feeling they are treated differently.
Really mad rn because I intended to put something about this in the opening and totally forgot. Next time.
An elderly neighbour left a 70 minute butt-dialed voice note on the street chat last night. Its entirely white noise.
This is what WhatsApp's "transcribe" feature thinks it says.
Please back my kickstarter for the "c-stop": A red button that cuts off your c-suite's social media access whenever they are about to post during a crisis and make it worse
@bieberium@infosec.exchange Agreed. My example was specifically chosen to be absurd, because it is far too easy to have it spit out incredibly misleading imagery - it even falsifies the Google maps pins.
It is not fair that the only way to stop being stressed about doing a thing is to actually do the thing. I would like to lodge a complaint (instead of doing the thing).
@harry_wood@en.osm.town In one of my other experiments it even fabricated a POI marker for something that doesn't exist. Which makes total sense when you think about how this works, but, yikes.
Have been informed that someone did a 15 minute livecode music set entirely made from an airhorn sound with live Microsoft Paint visuals.
I find it hard to explain what the festival we run is about, and may it get ever more difficult to describe. #emfcamp
Does anyone have an mp3 player (or mp3 playing capable device) that an installation can borrow for the rest of the event, one of theirs has died #emfcamp
