Sceptical of: AI hype. It's not "intelligent".
@alex@mace.social advocating for proactive housing improvements, including building new council houses.
I agree! One of the worst things Thatcher did was get so many of them sold off!

I often think about this! Especially if I have to go to the dentist or doctor. It's like: people, you could've taken the tip from covid and upgraded your air quality and airborne infection control, but you're not gonna, are you? You're just going to wait till the next one kicks off, and then be starting almost from scratch again like last time.
H5N1 flu is airborne, and I wouldn't be astonished if that gained human to human transmission soon. But there's lots of possibilities.
(Actually, H5N1 probably does have human transmission now I think, but only at high viral load - there was one case report where a mother seems to have caught it from her sick child after extended close proximity caring for the child, and the mother had no known contact with poultry. But I mean like, if it learnt to go human-to-human at levels similar to say measles. We'd be in a pickle then.)
If the next one is airborne again, at least _some_ of us will know what to do :-/
Right but we were talking about two different variables:
- whether it was correctly identifying who had used Copilot (it wasn't)
- supposing it did correctly identify that someone had used it, whether it ought to be auto-tagging their material (which @raven667@hachyderm.io was advocating for).
From what I read, I think this route still wouldn't auto-tag if someone used a different LLM and pasted in the results. It's not like a "try to tell from the style" detector. It was supposed to work by seeing directly if the person had just run the thing through #Copilot.
Free online event on Wednesday from Start Better Conversations, which I'm planning to go to:
"D&D for Problem Solving"
17:00-18:30 CEST, which is 16:00-17:30 UK time.
I must admit I'm not entirely sure I _want_ to use dice and storytelling to try to solve my problems haha! But I'm also curious about how that would even work. And I generally like Pascal and Umar's inventions.

Thermos lid recall for safety reasons.
I think I do have one of the short ones depicted here, in which case they were sold in the UK.
"At 9am on Saturday 25 July, a large part of Dover became somewhere you could be arrested for wearing a mask.
"Kent Police were expecting a far-right march and a counter-protest. They used a new power, section 157 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026, which came into force on 29 June, to designate an area where concealing your identity became a criminal offence.
"The march itself was between two points in the town centre, just a few hundred metres apart. The designation, however, covered ten wards, stretching ... several miles from the march itself. ...
"Arrest figures won’t tell us how many people this law prevents from taking part in public life. People who mask to reduce health risks are unlikely to be arrested, because if the choice is between attending a protest and risking arrest or removing their mask to protest, most people will simply stay home.
"... low arrest figures would not tell us how many people stopped attending protest areas or were forced to take a risk in order to do so.
"... the Home Office needs to redo its Equality Impact Assessment. It currently states, under two different categories, that there was no evidence about how the measure would affect people who mask for health reasons. Clinically Vulnerable Families is gathering that evidence now, including testimony from our members, in order to share it with a Parliamentary Committee."
