I'm going to make a prediction. LLMs will never be intelligent. They can't because they obviously lack some of the fundamental requirements. Don't ask me what these are(I could speculate), but the diagnosis is clear. All service tasks require intelligence. There's a lot of boilerplate, but underneath is intelligence, and the intelligence lies in the specific arrangement of the boilerplate. From this it follows there will never be large or even significant productivity gains from LLM use.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/feb/26/drop-in-overseas-workers-uk-hospitals-and-care-homes Soooo, following the pretty large #Green win we've just seen, is the government going to do the decent thing, which is to march the whole of the Home Office into the sea, and do what's the standard everywhere else: give immigration to the Economy, which can at least be counted on to not try to kill the country to appease the racists? Seriously #Labour, you only needed to be moderately not racist.

What's the place of AI in teaching?

Nowhere.

But why? Are we sure? Surely dictionaries, encyclopedias, search engines have a place, so why not?

We are certain, because the process of learning involves doing, fully, without help, as proof of mastery to oneself, and to others. And then doing it again better, faster, and again.

A reference used in this process needs to be reliable as its first quality, didactic second.

Will AI change the Labour/Capital equilibrium? i.e., can you buy AI to lower your labour input?

No. Because bottleneck tasks are almost never lines of code, text, or draft images.

If AI doesn't improve the bottlenecks in production, it doesn't improve productivity. Rather, it demands more labour to unclog the pipeline.

(or rather would if it worked...)

@troed@masto.sangberg.se The assembly people were eventually wrong. But the point was always enabling much more complex and useful systems. And of course, compilers frequently do better assembly than humans. The java people are still wrong, and with the RAMpocalypse, extra wrong today. Because the point of Java was to force code that looked clean to managers... LLMs do vastly worse code than humans, and also cause humans to be worse at code, and so the sneerers are very correct. @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social

There are regular dramas here which boil down to people not wanting social media but private fora. Which exist. Which they could use. But somehow don't, and moan about being on a social media site.

My writings here (and yours) are public for all to read. And *should* be searchable, and *will* be LLMed. I don't like LLMs, but if random strangers can read your stuff, they'll do whatever with it.

(really, LLMs are here an issue because of redistribution and deforming what you say)

A complete solution is likely quite complex and looks probably like KDE's log of pop-ups/events that stays accessible but has a timeout for being on-screen. And this is *exactly* the kind of system XFCE tries not to build.
