@nesce@mastodon.social @TimWardCam@c.im @MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk Also, the perpetrators of LLMs just love the confusion between AI, ML, and GenAI/LLM, and so on. It serves their commercial prospects. Then again, I met a guy last week who confused AI with QR; he'd been at a bar with his fifteen mates on a stag do and got confused by the QR code on the terrace table used for ordering, and he called that "AI", explaining to me (later) that he couldn't work out how to use it (the QR code) to put in an order.

@FlohEinstein@chaos.social Conversely: "Any sufficiently simple-seeming problem invites a similarly simple, yet, crude, solution." In other words: "If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." I am pretty sure that's how ACC derived his popular phrase. But I am probably wrong, because of my hammer.

@alicetragedy@mastodon.social But I'm a delivery driver for a wholesaler in the #netherlands , so I deliver fresh food and cool drinks to oh so many people who really need it. The point being, if I were to not do that and all of my colleagues with me, how would that end for our customers and their customers/patients?

The setup for the article (despite some good reporting) appears to be:

  1. Whatever happened to the Mediterranean diet?
  2. What is happening to Italians now?

The answer to the first question is easy: "The Mediterranean diet [is distinct from] Mediterranean cuisine." [1]

The second question is also easy: it's happening all over the global North, even (gasp) in Italy.

@SecondUniverse@autistics.life [Continued] That kind of trivialisation or playing down alone might cause years of psychological trauma, apart from the actual trauma. The only way my fall was ever brought up was around the slight scar on my cheek that kept reminding my family of what had happened, and I never even got a chance to explain the problems experiencing surgery while aware caused me. This is just a side note, not trying to trivialise anything you said.

@SecondUniverse@autistics.life Forgive me for putting a slight spin on this. I fell down some steps in hospital when visiting it for a different purpose when I was three. I caught my cheek on a small stool and needed three stitches, so thankfully I was already in a hospital! However, I was awake through most of that surgical procedure, seeing the surgeon bend over my face and feeling the pain of the needle placing those stitches. It haunted me for many years. My point being: my family trivialised it.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org @hzulla@infosec.exchange I always assumed datacentres would circulate their supply of coolant, which would probably double the power requirements but largely obviate their need for fresh water. Maybe they did, some thirty years ago when I visited a couple that were completely air-cooled and no where near bodies of water to dump their waste heat (and water) into?

@johl@mastodon.xyz https://www.olimex.com have been making open source hardware for maybe a decade or two now. They don't have the internals on mystery chips like ARM SOCs, obviously, but they have published gerbers and BOMs for their PCBs in the past: either you buy theirs or you make your own boards.
