@dansup@mastodon.social in my honest opinion, noone *must* build anything. "We *must* build" is a lame excuse to justify all kind of exceptional or horrible technologies: "we must do it or our enemy will do it before us" is urgent as "we must do it or our effort won't be taken seriously". As per the indexing: i like more when the discussion remain open without a "if you don't like x, just leave", which is a kinda close statement to write on a space that tries to be more inclusive and open than others. I have to recall 4 years ago when @janl@narrativ.es tried building https://searchtodon.social/ and basically listed all of the concerns from a lot of people reaching him. It was an experiment that i still think was done in good faith, and ignited a discussion that is still relevant today. if there's something that we have to do, is keep having more of these.

@sfb @ErikUden anyone thinking that journalists, and specifically the one in charge of writing headlines (which usually are not the one writing the article linked to), selects the words without accounting for the resulting framing of a sentence, is probably a bit naive

@jiva@devoe.social Probably because there is no compassion in exploiting a government policy. The purpose here is not charity, it is just a side effect, and in the same moment the same capitalist system finds a more effective (profitable) tool which coincidentally doesn't involve charity, it will just adopt the new one. I see no morality, nor compassion, just very clever hacks @mrzaius@hachyderm.io @uliwitness@chaos.social
