ELEVATOR PITCH: We need more First Bloods Every TV show with a weirdo and a cop partnered up solving crimes together is copaganda Cops don’t give a shit about solving weird crimes, let alone care enough to team up with someone who could piss off a beat cop in under five words. Look at the clearance rates for any major city First Blood got this over forty years ago: some weird guy shows up and they arrest and beat him, and then he burns their entire town to the ground Any show with a weirdo cop with a normie partner would be better with the First Blood formula, look at Jack Reacher GEORDI NO: Sweet Dee is AuDHD and solves kidnapping cases for the LAPD GEORDI YES: Sweet Dee is AuDHD and takes on dirty LAPD cops with Rube Goldberg Hitman traps

Wondering if the intellectual justification to fire all the QA departments came from Rails TDD the same way that the intellectual justification to fire all the DBAs came from Rails migrations Because let me tell you, TDD out in the trenches is an XKCD-class thought terminating cliche: “I heard that to write unit tests you have to do TDD and write the tests first, and that’s too much work so I don’t write tests

I hate that I miss the days when someone would make a nice software product at a decent price and then blatantly and abruptly sell it off to a tech giant who would assimilate or kill it Now we get open source leaders taking slop payola to become influencers. You can be sure that they aren’t gonna be able to retire on that money The surprising thing about people in the US who spied for the KGB is how little it paid

Problem: in the days and years ahead there will be power and communications disruptions. The cellular network or even the internet may fail for days or weeks. Two way radio is a cheap and reliable way to keep the community together during these times, but how do you get people into it without being That Weirdo? Approach: Halloween is coming! It’s the one day of the year when children are still allowed to walk in the streets after dark and talk to strangers. And even adults will commit to the bit when there is spooky shit Make it something fun with FRS because that’s the lowest common denominator? How do we make this happen without being, ah, creepy?

when I was a young Werther weaned on DOS and Turbo Pascal, the idea that I had to create a user account to use my Linux install was strange look at a calculator or a wristwatch or a walkie talkie. The only thing that makes it uniquely yours is that you have possession of it with a null modem cable, if the person on the other end starts some shit, they know you can walk over and clothesline em with your keyboard minicomputers are a weapon of the enemy

I missed this report that SpaceX has decided to retire the Crew Dragon spacecraft, the only American spacecraft capable of ferrying astronauts to/from the ISS; SpaceX wants to focus its energy on Starship (and orbital data centers) NASA is now looking at revving up the Boeing Starliner program, providing additional funding to fix some of its problems. So much for commercialization of space technology. https://gizmodo.com/spacex-is-retiring-crew-dragon-forcing-nasa-to-bet-big-on-boeings-troubled-starliner-2000814072 1/n
