Would you like to see a twenty year old photo with about three pixels of me as a youth? Great, here you go! I already knew what I liked, so this was for an end of school formal dance gala where I danced the man's part with a cute goth girl. I'd borrowed the top hat and cane, and got the shoes and trousers second hand if I recall, but made the coat and cravat myself! Even today I sometimes think that I should remake the coat.

Have done not much today, but you may perceive these fine sirs using furniture if you please. #Cats

Have made a tiny weird pincushion! Or mostly at least, am going to attempt to put some beads on it because I have a lot of them. It's just some quilt leftover pieces, one side backed with a coutil scrap to keep needles from poking through, and the other with scrap linen to make the flimsy cotton less flimsy. The stitch I used was... fine but not optimal. 😅 I'd do it different next time, it's so bulky! Ah. #Sewing #HandSewing

Continuing with cat reports: Visiting sir has relaxed enough that he began singing his little songs to me yesterday, and wow did he keep singing... The impostor has been jailed! Ah heck, the nightdress, 'twas borked! The bit under the arm tore quite a bit, so I slapped on a patch of random linen scrap with the edges turned under, whipstitched it on, and applied the bare minimum of quick embroidery to stop the torn bit underneath from wiggling so much. #Mending #VisibleMending #HandSewing

Grand news for fans of the Visiting Sir, Rudolf! I've been a bit poorly and stuck in books and thus not posting as much, but shall be attempting multitudinous pictures of Fourth Cat as he comes over to stay for a couple of days. I'm hoping the sirs all get along roughly as well as they have, or better... But we'll see! In any case, have tired myself out with vacuuming all of Rudolf's usual napping and skulking locations, and now need to sit the fuck down. 😅 #VisitingSir

Of further note! He's refused any sort of kibble and very many wet foods for so so many months now, enough to make Mum despair over what to feed him. Here, for the last couple of days, he's just been... Nibbling on some kibble in the evenings? He doesn't even have his own bowl, he figured out the boys' simple puzzle bowl and helped himself! 😸 Eating more certainly isn't going to hurt him, so this is nice. #VisitingSir

Saw some good bombels on this random plant I don't recognise. They're the colouring of what I consider the usual bumblebees, but also were about half the size I'd expect! Might look up the species in a little bit. #Bees #BumbleBees

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st Re-replied for sharing purposes, on the topic of which is the least worse fibre: Don't forget that linen/flax takes a lot less water to grow and even wash! You don't really need to irrigate linen, and while it's on the field it's also a field of flowers so nice for pollinators... And once it's a garment - production will always be resource intensive when industrially produced - it will also need a lot less washing than cotton, since it gets stinky so much slower than clothes made from cotton and gods forbid polyester. Linen is not necessarily harder to produce, but the massive massive scale non-local textile production that took off took off after a time when cotton was made very cheap by colonialism and slavery. Even as late as the 1920s linen was normal for many parts of the wardrobe, so it's not that long ago! The current fabric production global engine is keyed to cotton, so it can't be just flipped on a switch back to linen, but linen is thankfully returning in some ways. Doesn't hurt that it's very good in the heat... *eyeing the climate*

Have you ever washed a rug in the river or a lake? Wondering how common it is outside of Finland, where it's quite traditional to go to the river and properly scrub a rug with a big brush on a special pier for it, and then let it dry in the summer sun...
