Whenever I write about old software, it still strikes me how absurd it is that it’s easier to run software from the 90s and 2000s on a modern computer than it is to run an iOS app from 15 years ago.

I’m not anti-passkey, but I got caught really off guard by a site automatically creating a passkey for me with zero user input. Imagine if I’d logged in on a shared device and now the device owner gets passwordless access to my eBay account!

I keep finding myself wondering… now that it’s becoming clear that most people are going to be priced out of regular electronic device upgrades for years, and the ones that do exist are likely to be much more RAM-constrained then before, are apps/websites going to have to be much more well-optimized than they have been for the past decade or so?
What do people think the good Linux laptops these days? I've got my eye on the MNT Reform Next, but curious about other options.
Good battery life and screen would be nice. Would prefer something not from a US company.
While debugging the Magic School Lunar translation, I ended up spending some time reverse engineering the save game format so I can speed my way through all the battles. Turns out it was a lot simpler than I thought! I always find myself wondering what people think the "p" means when they're quoting resolutions these days. The "p" part hasn't been relevant for 20 years, and most people just treat it as a standard part of describing resolutions, but... do people think about what it's short for? Probably not?
I think if I were Sony I would probably have waited to make my “ending disc sales” announcement until people had forgotten about the digital movies they had lost without compensation, or the closure of the Vita/PS3 stores. Just not good timing

The Hamienet converter is old enough it's been around a decade before libFluidLite even existed. TiMidity++ is old enough it'd fit, but if it's not that I wonder what else it could be.

And yeah, I'm in a similar position. I have a first-gen M1 MacBook Air from 2020, and while it's basically still fine, I'm trying to read the tealeaves on the next few years to decide if I should get my next computer now instead of waiting a few years.

An onclick handler that does navigator.clipboard.writeText started being rejected by the browser, but I thought that was the context in which it's supposed to be supported? I know there were some security changes to the clipboard in this release.

I'm curious, is your goal here to basically clone HamieNET 1:1 or are you planning to build out extra features? I'd been thinking about building a specialized MIDI site that could track stuff like what hardware something is for, or expanded artist/cover information... but maybe we should join forces?
