I'm a policy nerd and velocipedestrian, sometimes trying to grow veggies and on a quest to become more tolerant and empathetic.
I like tea, libraries, jigsaw puzzles, fridge magnets, cooking, mountains, trains, rescue dogs and tropical islands.
When I grow up I want to be a train driver. Or a librarian. Or maybe a character in a William Gibson novel.
I only boost pics with Alt Text. Most of my posts vanish after three months.

It may not have made much difference this time, but Labor needs to understand that they were never going to succeed against a populist, anti-elite insurgency with a former staffer and corporate lobbyist as a candidate.
Someone needs to come up with whatever the Albo version of TACO is as shorthand for his visceral fear of implementing any meaningful, progressive reform and his apparently irresistible need to squander the largest parliamentary majority in recent Australian history.
I have very little interest in golf, but I am looking forward to seeing the Bone Saw Blood Money Golf Tournament™ collapse into its amoral event horizon tomorrow.
ID requirements for voting are a form of voter suppression and must be resisted.

$50 million per year for the Active Transport Fund. They left off a zero again.
If anyone needs some cheap specs, these folks are pretty good for the basics. I buy my single vision reading/computer glasses from them. I wouldn't risk it for more complex lenses, like multis though.

Cory Doctorow:
But that's not the world capitalists want. For capitalists, the point is to restrict other people's choices in order to maximize your own freedom. That's how we get economic doctrines like "revealed preferences": the idea that if a person says they want one thing, but does another thing, then you can tell what they *really* prefer by looking at the latter and disregarding the former.
This is the kind of doctrine you can only fully embrace after sustaining the kind of highly specific neurological injury that is induced by taking an economics degree, an injury that makes you incapable of perceiving or reasoning about power. Under the doctrine of revealed preferences, someone who sells their kidney to make the rent has a revealed preference for only having one kidney:
