I really am tired of writing short essays that take an hour or so validating my existence to companies looking to hire, only to be rejected with boiler plate email that doesn't explain what was lacking.
Makes me feel disrespected for the effort made to jump through their application hoops and get no feedback.
This is so depressing. Time for a little food therapy sorbet break.
Welcome to the on going saga of our Hero's quest to find employment as a (backend) Software Developer. At this moment our Hero contemplates navel lint his dire plight. He scans the online landscape and job boards for signs of employers.
He can wield #C with extreme delicacy & finesse; compose functional code of #Erlang; use #Java, #Javascript, #NodeJS adeptly. Even understand the arcana of #Forth and has constructed a #RabbitMQ cluster with careful planning.
Yet our intrepid Hero is passed by again and again, like last year's Xmas toys. None glance in his direction as he rises from his chair to play with his faithful dog, Clicquot. Maybe tomorrow will yield new mysteries.

Or if you're a young developer, you download the source, stub out the age tests, and build your own version to install from - you going to sue a teen cause they have skills?
The whole notion of age verification in open source software where the source of the software is available to modify, is so brain damaged and unenforceable.
Maybe add age verification as a loadable kernel module. Then people can opt-out or opt-in at the time of install.
I am amazed that #California of all places, being open to ideas and a hub of technology is parking their brain cells in a handicap zone.

Too hard?! Clearly they can find and list all the fees on your bill ad nauseam easily enough to squeeze money from their customers, BUT are to feeble minded to list it on contracts or advertising. Bollocks!

I got this feeling for how people used to work with ed, how working with it actually works. I know I could do this.
Follow @ed1conf aside from the ed(1) humour, posts tips and tricks to rival vim (eww).
Also note that ex(1) (vi(1) line editor : mode) shares a common base with ed(1) so your new found knowledge carries over.
Did anyone ask the #Artemis2 crew if the capsule had that new car smell?

The C Programming Language 2e by Kernigan & Ritchie is pretty much the root source should be available in any tech. book store, Amazon, uni. book stores. After that C standards for specific changes and additions (PDFs found online).
I've also been told of Beej's Guide to C.

A blocklist for web sites using AI might be interesting, though extreme for daily use (still maybe). I'd rather avoid contributing to an AI indirectly.

Oddly enough, it was the 1970's and 1980's children that took apart code - Apple II supplied BIOS code, Exidy Sorcerer available monitor code and circuit layout, DR's CP/M the BIOS portion though many disassembler all of CP/M to add more features to name a few,
Its the children driven by curiosity, a desire to understand, and learn that bring about future changes. They won't care about age rules, just a challenge to bypass them and sell that knowledge to their friends.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social I've lived in France and I certainly would not want a huge frak'n truck. Too hard to park or manoeuvrer in small streets of villages and cites. And the Hummer's I saw were vanity cars during the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco GP. Totally impractical for daily use.

IMO it possible to develop quick in #C, but its always my favourite.
For system languages close to the silicon, you picked most of them. #Forth also works close the silicon if you're game, but different perspective. Don't know enough about #Go yet to judge it.

Curious though, everyone who ever assigned IPv6 always gave me a /64 (which is way huge). Why would you be given a /59, which is even bigger? Is this a size thing?

A writer has a style, might change by series, or natural progression, or both. That style is heart felt by readers which draws continued interest in a writer's work.
What passes for AI (machine learning, weighted algorithms, enhanced Markov Chains) is a mish-mash. A heartless collection of output based on the amalgamation of stolen knowledge, lacking joy or pain or heart or understanding.
The current "AI" or Super-ELIZAs are junk science. They can amuse as parody which is fine. Their failing is to be assumed intelligent.
Maybe one day proper AI that is capable of independent creative thought may come to pass, but never while Corporate interests exist to pervert it. (See RoboCop for an example).
